Here's my quick try using two strip lights but...I did cheat by selecting the lens in post, inverting and darkening down the bg. I also made a second selection of the lens to boost the highlights.

It's not as good as I would lke but I'll save this challenge for another attempt later.

I'm really enjoying my strip boxes. They're bigger than I would prefer but at $45 each, I couldn't go too wrong.

Stripbox/grid....a foreign language for me. Did Gene post a pull-back of these items? I'm curious, not that I do
product photography but I buy and sell lenses so it might help with a sale.

Speaking of, I pulled the finger out of the dam today. The 500ISii is now sold, much Canon kit to follow.
I have no regrets. I carried that heavy stuff all over, paid my dues, got lots of keepers but time for a new era
for me.

Mine don't have grids but I believe they offered one with a grid. I don't see it listed on Amazon at the moment though. Here's the link to the one's I got. The size of them are 35 x 140 cm (13.8 x 55.1 inches)

For my 'product' style photography, I replaced the small bracket I have with a large one to support a background with more stability. I can even use one of the wood backgrounds with no problems. I wouldn't use a wood background if the 'stage were foamcore or other light material though.

Here's a shot of the brackets for comparison and placed under the 'stage'.

And the end result.

strip box is a softbox but longer. more rectangular shape like 14inches x 60 inches. it's good for full body shots. the grid is like a screen that restrict lights from spreading. Good for when you wanna light your subject but not a lot on the background.

Or light the background and not your subjects. I need to snag those strip boxes that Gene is using with the grids for white backgrounds.

Here's a pullback from the other day. It shows the two stripboxes, tall narrow softboxes, along with a beautydish, gray background, and reflector I used for a selfie.

I'll post a link to the selfie instead of posting it again.

Thanks Carlo but the camera isn't as clean as it looks. I use it a lot too and don't want to be too finicky about it's appearance. Of course, that means a lot of clean up before I post photos of it so I don't embarrass myself too badly.

Lol well nice work on the clean-up then!

I'm pretty careful with my stuff....but magnesium bodies and those hard edges on the Sony bodies are just brassing waiting to happen.

Yes, that's what created the rim light on the sides of my face, hair and shoulders. The beauty dish was shooting downward towards me just as it appears and the reflector bounced light back up to help fill the shadows. Here's another shot of me using that same setup.

Gene that lighting is on point in everyway. And yes props for the separation of your black shirt from the background. Really nice
