What do people use the apps for? I've never used any of them on my a6500 or RX100V. Only one that I could see maybe being useful is timelapse, but I have an intervelometer for that.

Jarvis, most famous app is S/R (Smooth Reflections).
I love the timelapse app to negate having to carry/remember the intervalometer and remember to check the batteries in it.
Sadly for the last three Sonys I've gotten they (the apps) are gone.
Currently waiting out a kickstarter Arsenal for the a9/Riii/10iv.
I'll probably forget to pack it.

Is using an adapter for my Canon lenses a good option? At under 2K, I'd be curious to try a Sony, but I love my Canon lenses and would like to keep them. I just don't know if the focusing speed and accuracy and/or functionality are compromised with an adapter.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Congrats! That’s what.. 4 for you now? There goes more of your camera budget! Sad that I’m only at 2 and for $500k, I can’t find a decent house to raise the kids in here in NJ.

It’s not critical to call the a7III a baby a9 or a baby a7R III. In my opinion it’s a 5D IV/6D II killer. A Nikon D750 destroyer.

Do not adjust your screen...this is the real life and not just a fantasy: an ‘entry-level’ FF camera that only costs $1999 USD yet has two card slots, 10 fps in silent or mechanical, a bazillian AF points/93% VF coverage, crazy-good eye-AF, superb high ISO, minimum 710 shots per battery, BSI sensor with 5-axis IBIS, 15 stops DR. Try to get close to all that (including the price) from any other camera mfr. My guess is that this will prove to be a much more momentous release for Sony than the a7R III or a9 was.

I don’t recall being this enthused by a camera release since the Nikon D800 (which was cool way back in 2012 for having a 36MP sensor. It also turned out to have the crappiest LV screen I have ever seen).

Yeah it out specs the likes of the 5DIV. If a9 and and a7riii are indicative of real world performance, it should outperform the 5div for things like wedding and event photography. Especially if since it inherits the a9 PDAF system, it plays as well with EF lenses as the a9 did when I had it. For $2k MSRP, which is realistically $1,500 street in a few months, this thing will be disruptive. Ludicrous value for the money.

I think Sony knows Nikon has a FF mirrorless in the pipeline and is wanting to extend their lock on the FF mirrorless market in a big way. I have doubts that Nikon can match the sensor and AF performance of the A7III at this price point.

All this discussion of 7iii vs Riii vs a9.
Well on this shot I could not have gotten it with the Riii, the acquisition time would have been too slow. How
do I know, well I missed a similar shot with the A7Riii a day earlier in very similar circumstances....that or it was
just me.
Besides nabbing the bird I think I'm underexposed.

24mp with a BSI sensor that isn't tuned for speed like the a9 could give the A7III about a one stop advantage in high iso performance over the 42mp bsi. The fact that the A7III goes to iso240800 extended vs iso102400 extended on the a7riii supports a 1 stop high iso advantage. That'd basically be a7s caliber high iso performance, but at 24mp instead of 8

loved the phrase on petapixel.com "This is what a $2000 camera looks like Canon"
for those who rushed for A9 and A7RIII, what to say...
maybe will upgrade, will see

Uljens I'd rush for the a9 again and again.
Speedwise the 7iii on paper looks no faster than the A7Riii right? and I compared A7Riii to a9 every other day for two weeks.
If and when you need pure unadulterated speed there is nothing like the a9.
But I'd bet few really need a9 type speed.

Mostly likely the a7 iii will be held at 8 fps for an almost blackout free EVF experience like the A7Riii, so a9 is 2.5 times faster.

I agree, if you shoot fast moving subjects like flying birds or sports, you definitely need that AF and , maybe, FPS.
but for those who are in reportage, weddings - A7 III, for know, is the best they ever wished

as Im in neither categories I mentioned previously, I can live with A7 II, but if Eye-AF will be working with adopted Canon lenses, I think I will pull the trigger + price wise no need to sell a kidney :)

Well Uljens glad we agree to agree for the most part ;)
I did admit most will never need 20fps.

Now consider this....if the 7 iii had been 30mpx then it would have been the greatest all arounder ever ever made.
Not that 24mpx is that far off 30mpx when linear resolution is considered.....but the Canonistas will say 'oh my 5Div
beats it on resolution'.

I am looking forward to the sitting in the puddle of water test though.

and the new Sigma ART lineup for Sony E-mount, I think, is not what all where waiting for.
If AF will be top notch, could live with that, but size wise it is the same DSLR lens with adapter.

Haha, no interest in the new Sigma=I can't get that close to the critters!
Now the new Tamron 28-75/2.8 should interest anybody in e-mount, but since
that FL is rarely deployed in my world I'll stick with the old Sony FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6. for
when I have to.
