I'll buy that 28-75. It seems the perfect size for a standard 2.8 zoom. This is what Sony should of came out with to begin with. Smaller mirror less purpose lenses.

I’m also excited about this lens. It will be interesting to see how it compares to the Sony GM version and the 24-105 f4.

for me, it's 2.8 or bust. Not taking away from the 24-105, just had too much conflict with f4 and f2.8 zooms during canon days to know that f2.8 is the way for me.

but I'm also 100% sure that there are anti-science things believed by people in this very thread that I'd regard as sheer lunacy as well.

He he. I have a BIL / SIL combo who think eating acidic foods will make their bodies more acidic. So he will eat a meal of a slab of ribs and 2 cups of whipped cream, but avoid a tsp of vinegar. Obviously no idea how either buffered systems or kidneys work. But then, Tom Brady (Patriots QB) believes the same nonsense.

This isn't the same BIL who did not buy a Rebel (which would mate with my $15,000 in lenses/flashes plus experience) because the one generation out of date Nikon kit at Costco was $50 cheaper.

So I went to buy a part for my ikan beholder MC1 Gimbal. Discovered that they're based in Houston, so paid them a visit, and found out that they share a building with a camera store I knew nothing about.

Long story short, I walked out with a new Gimbal (DS2, which can support more weight) and a rental of the 35LII.

Definitely sharper than the Sony 35 1.4, but I'm not sold on the rendering. As we know, the rendering of the Sony is something special. The 35LII has a very neutral rendering from what I see. Not overly clinical like Sigma, but no magic to it either. Seems all the newer Canon lenses render like this. I prefer the older Canon rendering...i.e. 50L, 85L.

This new 28-75 Tamron looks promising. The guy explains the reason why they went with 28mm instead of 24mm on the wide end.

That's what kills it for me. One of the reason's I wanted to go to 35mm format (way back in 2007, and among other reasons) was that the 35mm format zooms were all 24-XX while the 1.6X format zooms were all 18-XX or 17XX.

Basically, I want and need 24mm as my widest. I don't really need wider, but for sure I would wind up adding a 16-35 type zoom to go with a 28-XX where I can live with just a 24-XX.

As an aside....this is also why I wonder if I will wind up loving the FE28/2. I want a kit of small primes on the Sony, but my ideal set is 24-50-100. Right now I have 28-55-??

how do you like gimbaling in general? I've been holding out for a bit and got myself a really cool arm to work as a stabilizer for now. Reason is that it's ultra small and doesnt require electric. Going to test it out before I go gimbal, really want to avoid gimbal route for as long as I can, as I'm not sure I want another gadget that's somewhat difficult to pack and bring around. I got this arm that supposedly pocket size, really cool looking, just hoping it lives up to expectations.

I agree with you that the 35L II lacks character as compared to the Sony, but it is an absolutely superb lens. Its superbness is plastered all over those two beautiful shots.

I didn’t want to have the 35L II be my sole 35mm lens, but I’d love to have one in my kit and shoot in on occasion. A great way I’d use it is when I do an outing with just a single lens.

BTW, if you get a chance, it would be wonderful to see some comparison shots showing the FE 35mm vs 35L II.

I'll let you know when I get back from Disney in two weeks hehe.

This one is definitely more of a commitment than the smaller one that couldnt really balance anything than the RX1RII. I can fit this one in my pd everyday backpack, but the handle is sticking out of the side of the top flap hehe.

When I did go through the trouble of bringing the ms1 out I was pretty happy with it. It's not perfectly stable if you move a lot, but no nauseating shaken when chasing the kids around which is the goal.

I need to shoot more videos of the family because I really neglect to do so. When it comes to video I adopt the mindset that most do with photos... The cellphone is so convenient and simply works so I just use that. But since. I have all this gear, I want to do more high quality and creative stuff and hopefully this will motivate me more because the RX1RII was a really crappy video cam.

Hehe it's definitely sharper than the Sony. Weather is nice this wknd and we're taking the kids to the rodeo so I'll get to really test this lens out.

I'll definitely do some comparisons though. I'm just such a 35mm nut that I had to try this lens.

This thing AF's like a native lens on the mkiii, so it's worth considering. The 35LII + adapter is also the same size as the Sony.

Awesome in spades Eriet.

Hey, you'll have a guiding tour to do first of December too :)

YES!!!.... I missed all the birds this year.

There is a bald eagle at one of the wastewater treatment ponds and I went to shoot it this AM and of course its the first day of spring training and the road to the pond is closed because It shares a driveway.

DECEMBER!!!
