Atlanta would be a great spot to explore David. Good for street, architecture, urbex, and cityscape. I hope I can return in August this year. I had a blast last year.

---------------
The sunrise shot that I posted a while ago was captured later in the morning. This was the scene at the start of sunrise over Woodlawn Lake pier.

I hope I can get my sleep issues sorted out by then! Things have been steadily improving, but I still have far too many days where I can’t fall asleep before 4AM or get a solid 7-8 hours. Can’t figure it out because my stress levels are as low as they’ve ever been in my adult life.

Gorgeous image with an epic sky!

Thank you David! That insomnia must be so frustrating. Best of luck.

Take up running :-)

I run like mad these days, 3-5 miles, and scale parking structures at the nearest community college. My sleep schedule is screwed up due to my kids, but hard exercise has fixed me up, along with other health issues magically disappearing. It’s difficult, but baby steps can get you going. I started by running a few laps around my block, then it morphed.

I can set simple goals, pick up blueberries for my wife, and run to the store, and back home. Sometimes small goals are easier to accomplish, like running to a distant landmark.

Good exercise has changed my life. Occasionally I can sleep till morning without interruptions, pretty unusual

there are excellent, I wish I hadn’t looked at them on a big screen :-) . Really smooth oof areas

Edit - people (including me) say sony lenses are expensive but I just looked up the 35ii and it’s more expensive than the FE35 by a good amount. Seems like Sony isn’t that far off the mark with pricing

Lots of talk of 35mm.
I'm happy with the FE 35/2.8 and
the SEL 35/1.8.

Thanks Eddie. Yeah oof rendering is really buttery, and without the CA of the Sony.

And yeah this lens is pretty expensive. Canon has lots of cheap lenses because they are 10+ years old, but they don't really hold up against newer lenses. And yeah canons new lenses are just expensive as sony's

Can you get SR app on the original a7R? Wondering if that body could be a dedicated SR/landscape body as I was always happy with the files at base iso. That would free up cash for an a7rii or a9

Edit - the more I think about this the less the idea seems like it would work. If I wanted the cv40 for example it would be on the other body for the better evf leaving the a7R as my af body so that wouldn’t work out

The a7r has a very nice EVF( much better than the R2) and SR works well, but beware of long focal length landscapes.

I think so. I don’t think it will pose a problem for you if you use the two cameras for different purposes.

I can imagine the combo being a pain for anyone using the two cameras interchangeably, but if a7R II becomes your dedicated landscape camera, then you’ll be using a completely different workflow than with the a9.

My big want on the a9 is that silent shutter. And the high speed is very desirable as well. I want to be able to frame up and pre-focus interesting street compositions at wide apertures (thin dof) and then capture passers-by just as they enter into the plane of focus. Presently this is total hit and (mostly) miss for me; I just have to get lucky. But, capturing a complete sequence at high speed as they enter/exit the thin focal plane almost guarantees nailing focus on pedestrians (eliminates luck as a variable) while allowing me to mentally prioritize overall scene composition.

When the a9 was released last year I had zero interest in it. But, at that time my priorities were limited to landscape/architecture. Priorities evolve. :)

I mainly want it so that I can carry two cameras at a time. A9 for the main af camera and then either a landscape lens or a fun Lens or another af lens of different focal length on the a7rii so that I can flip between them. 24-70GM on the a9 and batis 85 on the a7rii for example. Having said that I’m sure I can live with the frustration of different controls

Anyone have any big trips planned this year? Anyone attending a workshop? I’m taking my family down to South Padre Island at the end of March. I’ve never been so I’m excited to shoot some seascapes.
