Anyone have any big trips planned this year? Anyone attending a workshop? I’m taking my family down to South Padre Island at the end of March. I’ve never been so I’m excited to shoot some seascapes.

Got a week and a half’s trip in the campervan in April to take in a wedding down in London so will be splitting the journey up with stops in various places so hopefully catch some landscapes. Also going to the Isle of Man for a week in August and a week in lanzarote in October. Nothing very exiting but hopefully get some pics. Japan next year though which will be epic

Dual camera for me I think the A7R3 and the A73. The wife will have the A73 but I could borrow it anytime and vice versa for her with my R3.

Just not sure about the A9. My son does baseball... my oldest is on her way out of high school... my two younger girls do dance... obsessively. I don't really need the 20fps of the A9 unless there is more features I'm missing.

What would the A7R3/A73 combo lack that the A9 would provide me other than the 20fps?

Anyone have the 50 2.8 macro.... I'm seeing great pics on flickr

Would like to lighten my bag and sell the 55 and the 90 macro

I keep coming up with reasons to sell my 55, but then discover my inability to commit to selling it.

It’s a truly wonderful lens, and the size is wonderful, but I’m either at 35mm or 85mm and never find myself saying, “Gosh, the 35’s too wide and the 85’s too long...better grab that 55.”

For now, I’m keeping it and will make a stronger effort to use it more. It may have the most pleasant bokeh rendering of all my lenses.

Eddie, you’re blessed to be in such a beautiful location. Isle of Man is amazing. I’m considering a trip to Thailand next year as our second big overseas trip. A few years ago we went to Maui which was great.

I should be in northern Georgia at the end of summer and Fayetteville AR in May. Also going to the Great Wolf Lodge near Dallas for Christmas.

Still want to visit Vancouver, PAC Northwest, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Chicago (for architecture), and Idaho to name a few.

Talley, the a7riii and a7iii would be a fine combo. I don’t need 20fps either but I am attracted to the a9 for a few reasons. Blackout free continuos focus for one thing, almost no banding when shooting silent mode, better evf res (maybe a7riii is the same?), 14 bit silent shooting, and the best version of eye-af from all the Sony bodies. I’m sure I’m forgetting things here but that’s off the top of my head. I don’t shoot sports but I’ve got two young kids and as you know they don’t stay still!

However, if I could live without SR app then I might have ended up with a7riii/a7iii combo

No big trips as such. But plenty of days out locally & to the Brecon Beacons most weekends hopefully!!

I would like to plan a few days in the Peak District too but we'll see on that one. It'll be last minute if we do!

I sold mine to Eddie because I just didn't get on with the focal length. Super lens though without a doubt.

Padre has some beautiful beaches Alfredo. Not like the nasty ones in Galveston.

I'll be in Disney next week.

No rolling shutter when using the silent shutter. Blackout free shooting.

20fps is a bit ridiculous...but for dance it might actually be useful in getting those perfect poses with perfect facial expressions. For things in motion, a lot can happen between frames at 20fps.

I'm planning to kayak from Old Woman Bay to Agawa Bay down the eastern shore of Lake Superior in August. I'm hoping to find some nice opportunities along the route, I've shot some stuff in the area before (in my Flickr - Algoma and Agawa)

I hope I can get my sleep issues sorted out by then! Things have been steadily improving, but I still have far too many days where I can’t fall asleep before 4AM or get a solid 7-8 hours. Can’t figure it out because my stress levels are as low as they’ve ever been in my adult life.

Gorgeous image with an epic sky!

Insomnia sucks. I have a buddy that's a sleep specialist MD. I have no idea what your routine is but he tells me 99% of routine insomnia is secondary to poor sleep hygiene. I totally agree with Charlie with regards to increasing exercise. Getting yourself physically worn out is a great first step. Second.....Turn off the computers/screens a couple hours before bed. As you are surely aware, the screen will stimulate brain activity preventing it from mellowing out when you are trying to fall asleep. Not preaching at all....just tossing it out there for sake of discussion this morning while perusing the lounge thread.

Take up running :-)

I run like mad these days, 3-5 miles, and scale parking structures at the nearest community college. My sleep schedule is screwed up due to my kids, but hard exercise has fixed me up, along with other health issues magically disappearing. It’s difficult, but baby steps can get you going. I started by running a few laps around my block, then it morphed.

I can set simple goals, pick up blueberries for my wife, and run to the store, and back home. Sometimes small goals are easier to accomplish, like running to a distant landmark.

Good exercise has changed my life. Occasionally I can sleep till morning without interruptions, pretty unusual

Good for you Charlie! I have always been very physically active. I mentioned a couple months ago that I had become pretty lazy in fall of 2017. I got 15lbs heavier than I have ever been. I felt terrible. I dropped starchy carbs and snacking in the evening (I've always been able to get away with that and remain very thin) and dusted off the ole weight set. I'm now back down to my normal weight and feel great. While the skiing has been good, I can't wait till spring!

Bokeh test with the SEL 35/1.8 on the Riii-

IMO, this is the lens we need for FF Sony bodies....an affordable fast 35mm. Your shots look great MM!

I never do any big traveling that requires buying airline tix for the fam but we get out a lot. Typically limited to the intermountain American west....could be worse! We are heading to Moab, UT in a few weeks for the first trip of the year. I hope to get some nice shots but, as always, it'll be a bit of a family trip and I'll be trying to get some mountain biking in each day. I will take the gear. I hope to at least get some nice portraits in the red rock. I just sprung for the AD200 and would like to put it to use! :-)

I took up running again too.

I hit the weights pretty consistently each week, but it doesn't do much for the cardiovascular system and the calorie burn isn't there. So yeah after all the stuff I went through last year, I packed on 20lbs.

Once I started running again and lit the cardio furnace, everything else health-wise clicked. Diet cleaned up because I stopped craving crap food, and the added physical activity each day has my body begging for the bed by 9pm. I started counting calories and nutrition too...mainly to make sure I'm consuming the right amount of calories as I overdid the diet at one point and got nasty flu like fatigue and chills from starvation mode kicking in. Myfitness-pal app + samsung gear fit pro has helped me stay on top of things. Cool thing is that I'm finding I can still 'budget' things like 2 slices of papa john's large pizza and hit my goals for the day if I'm good the earlier part of the day :-)

I'm down 8 lbs so far!
