I completely forgot the rolling shutter thing. This would actually be a big deal for dance like you said...

dang now I want to pick up a A9 instead lol.

There are 2 lightly used ones for sale on FM for around $3300. I have thought a few times about these. :)

Sony already made 693 phase on the A9, why not gave it to the RIII? is it because it's an old sensor?

Yeah old sensor. PDAF points are masked pixels on the sensor itself.

This also means that the A7III AF is more common with the a9 than the a7riii

I’ve got a few lenses on my “I’d be a fool if I bought the lens again” list.
I bought/sold TS-E 17mm and 24mm II lenses twice already. But sometimes (even lately) I contemplate getting them back in my bag.

Those are on my list David. But I’ve seen architecture photographers use painters pole to get a higher perspective. Not sure if that negates the need for a dedicated tilt-shift lens.

and i thought it performed wonderfully with the mc11..

would i be a fool if i bought the lens again

i know there is the fe 35 1.4 .. but

I took some test shots between the Sony and the Canon this morning. I'll post them later but I think my early excitement was a case of recency bias and the two lenses are basically on par with one another. Plus the Canon with the adapter is noticeably bigger and heavier

Dance isn’t fast enough to worry about rolling shutter.

You have to pan much harder for it to show up.

Same with distortion.

Hmm, sounds like silent shutter would be just fine for what I want in a7 III and a7R III.

Is banding an issue with artificial lights when silent shooting a7R III/a7 III.

How much more awesome is the a7R III EVF over the a7R II?

banding?

If you shoot in silent shutter mode certain led lights can cause banding depending on your shutter. It’s something to do with the way the lights flicker on and off (not seen by naked eye) and the shutter speed. From what I can tell the a9 handles this better and it’s harder to make it happen. Not sure where the a7riii/a7iii fits in all of this

based on Jim Kasson's blogs, the A7r3 should have a lot of banding, however, the vast majority of shots, I simply dont see it.

The readout is 1/30, while the A7R2 and A7 mark 3 readout is 1/15. The A7R2 has noticeable banding in a lot of places I shoot, but oddly, not the A7R3. I can pull up many many scenarios where I'm shooting artificial lights without banding. Same scenario would likely cause banding with the R2.

Just that extra readout, double the speed, fixes banding for the most part.

Dang, I’ve seen a second hand a7riii at a tasty price. Not sure if I should jump on it or not. Wasn’t planning on the 7riii being my second body

Edit - just made him an offer. Watch this space. Eek

If I were to do that then the a7R II would be demoted to SR app usage. That’s not exactly a bad thing. I’m going to mull that one over a bit. :)

Banding comparison, both images shot on the A7r3, both silent mode, but the readout of 1/15 vs 1/30 is the main difference

I’m mulling it over in real time waiting for the seller to respond. A7rii would be SR but would also be a highly capable second body and the files would be the same each way. The more I think about it the more I am talking myself into it.
