The Backlight 36L can pack a serious load...and while it is heavy, and more than I would really ever hike with...it is more manageable than it would have been with all my old Canon gear...

I should add, both those bodies are gripped...finally a bag that can fit the gripped body with ease.

I'm curious to hear how this fresnel lens compares to the "Better Beamer". Have you tried both to be able to compare them Robert?

Yep have both.
A fresnel is a fresnel=no big if any difference there.
The difference is in the other things and they are big.
The Mag model can extend in increments.
It folds flat.
It is one piece minus the attachment to the flash, the Better Beamer is
several pieces to put together and then the irritating velcro wrap around the flash.
For someone like you Gene there are various other diffusors/honeycombs/etc. that can
be added instead of the fresnel.

Only nit, a small one, the Mag model weighs more than the beamer but packability is another
win for the Mag system.

Now when fully extended the Mag tends to sag down....this can be offset by how you put the jibber that
holds it to the flash/by cocking it up a bit to counteract.

Either way, the fresnel surprises how much like even the little Godox can throw down field.

Robert.

quote from sony

"400mm f/2.8 FE lens: “The weight of our 400mm F2.8 is very light, and you can use it handheld, which makes it easy to create different kinds of photographs. We already announced the development of this lens, and the launch is scheduled for this summer.”

https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sony-interview-at-dpreview/ (external link)

Hehe, Poof already caught me peaking at the 400/2.8. No way she says. She went further and said 'that is our trip to Thailand + two more trips!'
DT when I look at what I'm getting out of the 100-400GM I'm happy. The old 400DOii battlewagon will have to do. It does have one advantage over the sony---it is paid for :)

Wow that’s a lot of gear. Let me know what you think of the 1635GM. Still love mine and yes it’s smaller and lighter than people think for a f2.8 lens.

Thanks for the review. I have a better beamer but don't care for it. I always seemed to get 'red eye' with it and it's a pain to assemble whenever I wanted to use it.

Just be sure to run 'clean sensor' from the camera menu before you use it to lock the sensor from movement of the IBIS. It will stay locked after you turn the camera off after running the 'clean sensor' until you turn the camera back on again.

When you get back please give us your review on the 16-35mm GM.

Is the lens pouch for the 2x or for the CV 12?

Do you need so many increments of NDs? I always figure a 3, 6, and a 10 is plenty to the job done. I use ISO 100 and 50 as a sort of toggle for adding or removing a stop. Curious of your thoughts on that.

I'm not lucky enough to have IBIS ;) But thanks anyway :-)
