I was going to buy the 90 macro, but after buying 24-70 2.8 GM, 70-200 2.8GM, and 100-400GM and 2x TC in a short period of time, I couldn't justify the 90 macro at this time. Definitely on my list of future purchases though.

I'm actually going to try the extension tubes with the telephoto lenses just to see what happens. :-D

I think you'll be very surprised at the macro capability of the 100-400GM. I've not tried macro with it and the 2.0 but
will probably be awesome too.

Try moving a little further away from the backdrop to throw it more out of focus and you'll have a real photo studio. :-)

thank for the suggestion. I didnt think bout doing that to see how it would look. i liked the texture so I just took as is. i think the shot would look better as a shoot through umbrella and closer to the subject but i didnt want to take the black cover off hehe. so lazy....

Strongly reminds me of my fav Micheal Keaton as Batman. Love the lighting and the background is perfect.

Thank you.

And YES! Michael Keaton batman/batman return is my favorite batman. I think gotham looked best at that time, non futuristic cities. jack nicholson made a good joker, michelle Pfeiffer as cat woman, and danny devito as penquin.

also batmobile and batwing in those two movies is my favorite. not a fan of the new but also not too bad of a movie.

Well, my Pluto trigger and water valve came in today and here is my first dropplet collision. It took a little time to set things up and to get the timing down for both drops. This has just been an excercise to learn what I don't know which is plenty. I used a clear bowl for these which meant the wood table cast it's own color into the water, I need to figure out the best height for the camera to prevent the splash from getting 'cut in half' and that just might mean using a larger vessel. I used two flashes aimed at the bowl and both at about a 45° angle from the camera. I also used a 2" exposure which I will reduce since I took this one in daylight.

The trigger paired easily with the smart phone app that controls the settings and everything seemed to work fine.

I hope everyone will be patient as I play with getting things dialed in for water drop photographs.

Woot woot woot on your way :)
Lots and lots of fun to be had and each and every collision is like a fingerprint.

You're already doing something I never considered=2 sec. exposure. I shoot at the flash synce speed, 1/250 I think for the Riii.
I think you're going for the technique of no ambient and all light for the splash coming from the flash, correct?

If anyone out there is thinking about getting into wildlife photography for the first time, or know someone who is, it would be tough to do better than this Sony RX10 IV as a starter camera to see how you like it before spending the 5 or 6 grand on an ILC setup. 600mm equivalent with an auto focus every bit as good if not better than most DSLR's and full frame Sony's. This thing just continues to impress me.

Ed I've said the same myself, even that the 10/iv's tracking is right up there with the a9...in good light.
In fact if I lived where you do, or in Florida I really don't think I'd need anything else. The bigger plus is
no, absolutely no excuse not to have it with you. It replaced my Oly M1ii+PL100400 as daily carry, it's that good.

Nice.

That's pretty much par for the course out here. It's why many of my beach shots are taken from down low, next to rocks. :-P This is what a typical day at Windansea looks like out here, there are 4 1/2 photoshoots going on in this image, with two more underneath me, shooting against the rock I'm standing on here. The woman in white is waiting for the photog to return with a pop up changing booth. You should see what the reef at La Jolla looks like at sunset too. It's not uncommon to see people at the potholes with their tripod legs overlapping.

Great environmental shot....shows me that as much as I love your captures it's not a place I'd even think about going.

Sigma 135 is great, but its a cat's eye bokeh monster wide open. Stopping it down ever so slightly calms OOF highlights down a lot.

A few shots before my sensor cleaning that resulted in my recent post. Yes, I spent a lot of time cleaning up those spots on these shots.

Beautiful shot of an amazing raptor. I've always been fascinated with raptors. Some of the shots shared here have fueled my interest in bird photography and specifically raptor photography. In the area of Portugal where I was born and that I often visit Goldens are pretty common, they nest in the cliffs of the Douro river gorge separating Portugal and Spain. The area is a world Biosphere heritage site and raptors are really common there, Golden Eagles, Bonelli's Eagle, Peregrines, Egyptian vultures and Gryphon vultures are quite common. Maybe one day.....

Yes on killing the ambient. I'll have to try using a white background as well as black. I can see where this might necessitate a dedicated area/table to do this kind of photography as there are so many variables that can affect the final outcome. I did write everything down so we'll see what I come up with tomorrow.

The trigger is supposed to fire the camera shutter using IR like a wireless remote then release the two drops at the proper delays so that the first drop reaches max splash height before the 2nd released drop collides with it and then fires the flashes. For some reason, I had to fire the camera manually then push the 'button' to trigger the valve and flashes. I'll get it sorted out eventually...I hope.
