I had no idea lenses had firmware updates! Cool, I'll do it tonight since I have this lens.

Any idea what this actually does? A fix some type of problem?

From the Canon web site.

"Changes in firmware:
Firmware Version 2.0.0 incorporates the following enhancement:
Support for the "panning" scene mode with the EOS M5/EOS M6 has been added. The Panning scene mode reduces subject blurring and blurs the background when the lens is mounted to the EOS M5/EOS M6. The EF-EOS M Mount Adapter is required to use this lens with the EOS M5 and EOS M6.

This firmware update is for lenses equipped with firmware version older than 2.0.0. If the lens firmware is already Version 2.0.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

The version of the lens firmware can be checked on the camera menu.
See Camera User Guide for further instructions on how to check the lens firmware version.

Notes:
The enhancement is available only when the lens is mounted to the EOS M5/EOS M6 cameras.
The Mount Adapter EF-EOS M is required to mount this lens on the EOS M5/EOS M6.

OK sounds like it doesn't apply to me. I checked anyway and I'm already at 2.0.0 (shipped with)
