What I like about using either the Bridge, or even the LR import dialogue is that it will generally create the folder hierarchy for you, if you use any sort of dated folder structure, as well as apply basic metadata such as copyright notices, and even some keywords etc as an integral part of the process, without the need for user intervention, well not after you have initially set it up. I haven't yet had to do a really large import on my new machine, which is much much faster than my old one at that sort of thing, but when importing two or three thousand plus images was about the only time doing the transfer first, then the LR import after. But I was having to transfer the images from a USB2 reader, to an external USB2 HDD, while also running LR from another USB2 drive. Because LR also tries to generate standard previews during the transfer process, it could drastically slow everything down.
