Sure you can, but why would you. I mean if you're going to use Bridge anyway, let it import the files as well, instead of first doing it manually. That just makes little sense to me.

Directly dragging and dropping images from card to destination folder is much faster and more efficient than importing through LR/Bridge. You can always add your tags, metadata etc after that when "importing" the images from your computer into LR. I used to import images from card to computer via LR in the past but that was slow and inefficient.

Card to directory. Cull through photo mechanic and tag. Then send acceptable images to LR.

I had a few issues after a couple of upgrades. I now use Mac's Image Capture and just download multiple files to a folder on the desktop.

I often just use DPP to select a handful of hobby shots onto the desktop for posting here, etc.

Yes, many ways to get it done. There's also Apple's Image Capture that comes with the Mac. It doesn't give you many options, I believe, but it's pretty fast.
Just choose the way that suits you best.

Ha, we were posting at the same time.

Speaking of upgrades, I had to go back to using EOS Utility after upgrading to El Capitan. The Adobe Photo Downloader in El Capitan can't see any connected camera's. It took Adobe about a year to fix the problem and they did for the CC version but not for CS6, which I'm using. But I'm okay using EOS Utility though. It was rather slow with my old 40D but very fast with the 1D4.

Photo Mechanic is the fastest way I know to get raw files moved to designated folders and subfolders, remained as needed, and jpg previews presented for initial culling. After culling you can import/add the surviving images into your post processing tools. No need need to spend the time importing images and building previews only to cull them.

I use DPP and I use the Photos Program that came with the MacBook Pro. Insert card into reader, Open photos, select import photos and your done. Than you can edit though Photos. Works pretty good. Converts raw files. You will need to create a folder on your desk top to drag your edited photos so you can upload them from this site. Its really pretty easy. Hope this helps.
