Has anyone heard of any updates? I notice that sigma always puts the weight on alot of the lenses as TBD but then sneaks it in there later.

The 24-70 2.8 OS Art will be 1020 grams or 36oz. This puts it about 7oz heavier than the Canon MK2 or the Tamron VC model.

Once again... things are moving heavier.

Why so massive? 86mm front element? Don't really matter much to me, though. Not into f/2.8 zooms.

82mm not 86 and it's lighter and smaller than the 85A

This one will be tempting. Anyone have any best guesses on when we'll be able to get our hands on it? I h ave a trip in about a month i'd ideally like it for.

Doubt it'll be ready for then. I want it for my Disney trip in November. I'll take 5D4 w/ 24-70 Art and a 16-35 F4 IS

To me 1Kg for a stabilized 24-70 2.8 is great provided it will have stellar optics as we find in recent primes released for the Art line.

I am waiting to see price and performance of this and the 14mm Art but it is really taking ages for Sigma to launch them on the market.

My plan exactly; i've been hedging on 24-105f/4 or 24-70 f/4 for the trip, this Art could supercede both..

June 22nd for preorders in the US.
I see the MTF charts are out - I don't know if Sigma MTF charts can be compared with the Canon ones (for the 24-70 f/2.8 II); anyone care to comment? My noddy reading is that in comparison the long end looks pretty good away from the centre, which isn't quite as sharp as the Canon?

compare it with other sigma lenses and extrapolate. The sigma 24-105 is generally considered very good for instance.

I'll take a look tonight. I know the Sigma charts well and how they compare to the actual product. I have 4 of the art primes and also have compared to other canon glass so I do have a good understanding of where it'll fall out. I haven't seen the MTF yet but will look into it.

well first glance I'm not really thrilled. Seems like they went for optimum sharpness but at 24mm it has a mild mustache distortion so I'm not happy with that but it's not major... but still there. I hate that actually but will have to see how real world it is.

sharpness is very good... prime like but the corners suffer more... but it'll be matching that to the 24-70II from canon. It'll be neck and neck

I'll analyze more later...

Looks like another week for the pre-order:

Same for the 14mm 1.8

I wonder what pricing will be.

Evidently the 24-70 Art will be 1299. I think that price is spot on. The 14mm being 1599 is on the expensive side. That will not be a lens I own. They must think the Coma performance on that lens is perfect.

I'm pre-ordering the 24-70A.
