Sigma 24-70 2.8 OS Art Update

and let me be firm on my stance... a Canon 24-70 2.8 IS would without a doubt be $2499. Let this Sigma shine.

Oh and yes I do plan on selling the 24A and the 24-105 in favor of the 24-70A. I simply do not use the 24A like I should and know I can use the 24-70 much much more. I've figured out a few things along the way. I repurchased the 35A and it kinda sits alot. I just have too much glass I admit. The 50 is my long travel prime so I really don't wanna get rid of it and my 85 is my gem so is the 200. I'm golden on that. I would consider dumping the 200L in favor of a 400 2.8 and possibly 70-200 2.8 combo.

But for me it's a tad different on the short side. I'm wanting a UWA back but I know the 16-35 F4 IS was perfect but the F4 kinda stunk and I always demanded wider than 16mm. I think the 12-24A would be a good fit but it doesn't have OS but then I also realized I didn't really need it that much. Tripod eliminates the need and really I don't shoot much lower than 1/30 on the uwa so I can always handhold that.

we'll see. I need an OS main regular lens for video stuff and gotta move out the stuff I don't use in with something that would be. The 24-105 leaves much to be desired. Not happy with it. Thought it could make for a good video lens but eh...

Interesting, thanks. So you think this looks like it will be optically fairly similar overall to the EF24-70 f/2.8, albeit a chunk heavier but with benefits of IS and better price? I couldn't get on with either the 24-105 f/4L I or the 24-70f/4L, so I'm interested in this one, especially if it is good in the longer half of the range.

Please do Talley. Also if you could do some servo work with it and let us know how the AF does that would be awesome. I have never had a problem with any Art lenses IQ, only its AF.

IS on and off doesnt seem to make huge difference for video look. Hopefully can change it t Dynamic like the other lenses and get a really solid shot

You have better technique than me then because my unstabilized video shorts look like Blair Witch.

We'll see how the OS does once I get it for video. I'll take some samples. I'll need to play with the dock and see what the OS settings does for it.

I can't wait for your review! It'll likely save me $450 if I like it enough over of the Canon, plus the OS will be a bonus (I hope).

Used is fine typically. I typically buy used.... even 3rd party lenses. Used the II is going for 1300-1400 so about the same pricing as the sigma. Canon is no slouch by any means it's top tier. Not sure if the Sigma will come close but the OS is something Canon doesn't have... is it needed? For video YES. since Canon doesn't have IBIS.

I wonder about the OS/IS etc. I think I have shaky hands...maybe not visibly, but apparent in photos. So I always try to go that route. I wouldn't say it's a lighting or focusing issue, so I'm blaming the hands!

Totally necessary for me on the 70-200 f4 IS. And it definitely helps with my 24-105 f4 IS, especially at the longer end as expected.

Would an f/2.8 solve most of this by letting in twice the light? I guess I won't know until testing one and it will vary with the ambient lighting anyway.

The f/2.8 will help with camera shake by letting in more light and allowing for higher shutter speeds. In combination with the OS of the Sigma 24-70 Art I would think you should be able to get sharp pictures with no shake at around 1/50 SS at 70mm.

distortion is available.... vignetting... CA... difraction... it's all available!?!?

I said to myself wow the distortion looks great... then I realized it was turned on... turned it off and eww... ok ya well it works.
