Dense/heavy for it's size. 85A feels lighter.

lots of testing has commenced.

Explain. Does it jump when it starts up? Erratic movements? Do you think it is working properly, or is something wrong with the lens/OS?

doesn't jump any worse than any canon but it def does not lock the viewfinder... I just think it's realistic rating is like 2 stops. Just doesn't seem that effective.

Could be bad but I don't think it is... The focusing is super fast though... very impressive. Go look at my other thread

Have you hooked it up to the dock? You might be able to change the OS settings to make it work so that it locks the viewfinder. That helped with the 150-600 I bought from you.

No option in the dock menu options for any OS adjustments

I thought the same thing when I first got he 150-600C,. it turns out that what you see in he viewfinder does not illustrate what happens when you trigger the shutter.
To get better view finder stability I had to set it up in the custom functions with the dock.

How does OS work only when the shutter button is pressed? It seems like it all happens to fast for it to work. Pretty impressive if it does!

Canon mode 3 on the latest Gen IS lenses introduced this,. some people really prefer this way of using IS,. you never have to "fight" the IS when shooting moving subjects.

It is odd IMHO that SIGMA adopted it and made some sort of hybrid of it as the default setting. It got a lot of people confused.

From Chuck Westfall USA Canon;

Newly Added IS Mode 3: The new IS II super-telephoto lenses are the first to introduce Canon’s new IS Mode 3. This new stabilization mode is similar to IS Mode 2 in the respect that it can detect and correct for panning by shutting off IS correction in the panning direction, but the difference is that IS correction occurs only during the actual exposure in IS Mode 3. (As in IS Modes 1 and 2, camera shake and panning detection occurs whenever the shutter button is pressed halfway.) As a result, the image in the viewfinder moves more naturally while panning, and battery power is conserved. This feature is expected to be welcomed by sports photographers as well as those who photograph birds in flight.*

Here's the source, huge long article if desired, but it's about Canon telephotos;

I regards to the picture posted by Talley

Zooms have a tendency to do this. remember the original 24-105 and the new 24-105...happens every time you push the button

Shoot with enough room and let LR correct with 1 click

I just did not like colors and what i saw with the image
