Hey folks! I'm using a 680B manfrotto with a Sirui monopod head and it fits my use perfectly fine except for one point - it's made of metal and makes noises when I re-position it. Some context is that I regularly photograph school bands and choirs and oftentimes I'm moving slightly during the pieces. I've had my 680B make metallic clangs during pieces which is not ideal. Anyone know if carbon fiber monopods do the same?

I'm looking at the Sirui P-424 as that's about the maximum I'd want to invest in a monopod. I have a gitzo 4 series tripod and sachtler video pods so I know the value of well-made supports... it's just that I personally don't put that much value on a monopod to get a 250 usd+ gitzo.

Thanks for the help!

I'm sure it will have no problem. The monopod is MASSIVE and ridiculously sturdy.

I have the monopod for video work and some panning with a 600 prime and it's fantastic for either.

my guess is that it will at least be comparable to your 4 series, if not beefier. The largest tripod I've owned was the gitzo 3 systematic and this thing is even beefier.....

it's also made for pivoting, it has some unlock mechanism that you can pan like from a greased bearing of video heads.

I have the p-324s. No noise problems, sturdy, works well, intelligently designed features.

I wouldn't leave camera or lens attached without a hand on. It will stand on its own, but one dumb knock and it can go over.

I also use the P424 (not the version with the three feet just the standard version) and I heartily recommend it. I have had mine for 5/6 years and use it for clearing brush, as a walking pole and I even put cameras/lenses on it! Plus I have completely failed to put a mark on it.

Mine was pretty cheap (bought when they first came to the UK) but the quality/performance is close to Gitzo and Gitzo didn't make an equivalent so it was a no brainer!

Mine is more than up to handling my 800 F5.6 L IS and may be a little overkill for your 200-400? Check out the P324 - just a 3 series version of the same mono pod. The P324 is a little lighter and a very little cheaper - but, if in doubt, get the P424. Great piece of kit!

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

I have the P-424s and it has worked fine for my applications. It has been bullet proof thus far...It gets a moderate amount of
abuse and has not let me down...Solid choice

If you get the type with the legs, you can take the legs off and use it without. It comes with a base to replace legs for use without.

The legs also become a tabletop tripod.

I have the P424 and my 200-400 lives on it. Very sturdy and a great quality monopod.
