Buy D810 or D500 now, or D810 replacement later?

Hi,

I'm getting ready to travel a bit and was wondering if I should

1. Go lighter with a D500 + 16-80mm + 70-200mm f/4
2. Go wider with a D810 + 14-24mm f/2.8 + 70-200mm f/4
3. Use a 5DIII and 16-35mm f/4L IS and 100-400mm L II, wait for the D810 replacement even if it's after my planned trip

I have two pro size bodies and various other smaller cameras, but I've found dynamic range lacking on most of them except the pro size bodies, but don't really feel like carrying large cameras. I'd like to minimize the gear value and weight that I carry while traveling too.

I'd go with option 3 but with your 5DIV. The D810 is about the same size and weight of your 5DIV. (I'm assuming you own a 5DIV from your signature?) This option also saves you from purchasing anything, again assuming you own the bodies and lenses already.

Yeah, just wanted to bring something cheaper along. Not sure how the DR compares. I suppose the bringing the 5DIV would be the most prudent option. I have the 8-15 fisheye, but am on the fence about the 11-24mm, so was playing around with the idea of the 14-24mm.

By this time in the Nikon development calendar, I'd hold out for the 810 upgrade. 850?

D810 + 14-24mm f/2.8 + 24-70mm f/2.8

Still thinking about the 850. Looks like a beast. I'm afraid I'll get hooked into the system though and buy 105 f/1.4, 28mm f/1.4, 400mm f/2.8 and all the lenses I already have on Canon.

Which one of the two are you referring to? The non-stabilized?
