Is there a free Gimp-like software for vector-based design? For creating logos, etc.

I have Photoshop CS5, and use it all the time for photos, but don't think I'd use Illustrator enough to justify the cost*. Then again, if I get into the whole process maybe I'll decide I can justify the cost.

Thanks.

I use Corel Draw. In fact, I just used it to lay out an adjustable aperture and lens hood for my 500mm mirror lens.

It's far from free, but you can sometimes get very good deals on older versions. I bought a disk only copy at a local computer store for around $100. Given that it came with Corel Draw, Corel Photopaint, Corel Capture, etc., it was a hell of a bargain.

As far as I'm concerned, it's the best vector drawing tool out there.
