One thing you can do however it to perform a full reset of your camera features. This often makes a huge difference buffer capacity. Certain features can bog down performance.

Thanks; I will try that and see how it goes.

One thing I do wonder about, and not only concerning the topic at hand but also many other features, is if some sort of firmware hack wouldn't unlock a whole host of features.
CHDK (I think it is) can make a Canon Point & Shoot do all sorts of things not possible as delivered.

Magic Lantern can do likewise with the Canon DSLR, but their upgrades are more oriented toward video than still shooting.
