How do you have your camera in your bag - with lens mounted or not?

So I've always always always have had a lens mounted when the camera is in the bag and when I pull it out and needed a different lens I would swap then. Typically It's ready to go when I pull it out. I see some though that always have the camera dismounted w/ the cap on it. It use to be the 24-70 would be mounted 100% of the time in my bag but now it's the 200/2.

How do you prefer yours and why?

Depends on the bag and gear I'm traveling with. When I'm going on an extended trip, I'm usually on a RV carrying everything and put it in my big Pelican case. Lenses stored vertically, bodies horizontally, for more space. My Backpacks I use when traveling lightly and carry-on can spare a lens mounted. I'm not a run and gun shooter, so the few seconds it takes to mount the lens needed is not an issue.

today i packed a lowe pro 35L. maybe that isn't the exact name but i am too tired to remember it right now. carried 70-200, sig35, tok 16-28, 24-105, and 85 1.8, and a flash and triggers just in case.

I shot 90 percent of my (real estate today) shots with my tok 16-28. Typically I have that lens mounted when I show up and only put another on when needed. shot 5 properties today, used the 35 and 70-200 some and the 24-105 a little less. Never put the camera in the bag without a lens on it.

Regardless, i almost never put my body cap on my 6d. It is insanely rare ... only the kind of thing where i want to put the lens that is on the 6D on my back up and am too busy to put something back on the 6D. Or maybe I'm just leaving it at home.

As you, always with a lens on. The one I'm most likely to need for a quick shot. So that might be a general purpose or tele depending on the situation.

I use cases to transport equipment and 90% of the time have lenses off. When I get to where I am going to shoot I assess which lens will be appropriate and put that one on and then carry my camera, on a strap separate from the case. When I am done everything goes back into the case or the camera/lens combo just goes in the trunk of my car alongside the bag.

Primary always has a lens mounted unless I'm traveling. Backup has not lens mounted usually.

depends on what I am shooting. If I am going to a product shoot then its usually separated as I can get more gear in the bag that way. If its just to go out and shoot then usually mounted.

Always have lens on, usually the 24-70 on my 5D, 50-500 on my 7D if it's in the backpack. Only time I don't have a lens on is if I am flying and trying to carry both bodies in one bag, then one or both bodies will not have one on.

Usually I would mount a general purpose lens that I would use most of the time say 18-35mm.

then if changes is required, just rotate out and change a new lens.
in addition, I would have a extra rear lens cap just in case........

I usually have a lens mounted, quicker to get shots off, less dust getting inside the lens/body, plus it saves space allowing me to fit more in the bag

Depending on my bag and kit I take, I usually have the Fuji X-T2 with grip and 16-55 2.8 ready to go in the bag or if its Canon for sports, the 1D4 and 200-400.

When I was carrying my full bag of gear every day I kept my 18-135mm on the 7D2 for quick deployment if necessary. However, I quickly got tired of lugging all that stuff every day, so switched to a smaller bag made by AmazonBasics that can fit two bodies and two lenses or one body and four lenses (if the lenses are on the smaller side), but only if I keep the lenses off the bodies. I always keep my bodies and lenses capped at all times when they are not together.

We had an article done about our 3D printing program in the regional newspaper and when their photographer came to take pictures he had a lens on his camera with no cap or filter, and a bag full of lenses stuffed awkwardly with no separators or anything between them, and no front or rear caps on any of them!

I very often put a body in a bag for transport without lens, and then on location choose lens to mount on it for a certain shoot.

In cases in which FL flexibility warrants, I will choose certain key lenses to put into a bag, along with body+lens to serve as my 'active bag'. Other lenses might not be kept by my side, but stored (somewhere safe but retrievable with only reasonable delay). A body would be in the bag with lens attached, only for those circumstances in which that lens is estimated to meet 90%+ of my shooting needs.

So a 70-200mm might go with me on site when shooting sports, but stay 'at home' if I do not expect to need it at all.
So on a sports-oriented shooting day, I might decide that any lenses that are [FL <normal] are 'too short' to bother carrying (e.g. an ultrawide zoom)
