I normally have my main camera, my 50D, with my standard zoom mounted when the camera is in the bag, a Sigma 20-40 f/2.8 EX DG. I also usually have it set up with Av @ f/5.6 and Tv @ 1/125 and set to ISO 100. I usually leave it set on Av mode, but either of the two modes should allow for a reasonable exposure when grabbing the camera in a hurry. I also have a 20D as a backup/second body, and which my daughter sometimes uses too. I leave a original 18-55 fitted to that, so that it is also ready to go if she wants to borrow it.

Most of the time I just have my camera, with lens attached in my backpack. If I carry an extra lens it will be in a neoprene bag made for lenses.

I work out of a Domke F-1X. I set it up with the FA-230 3-Compartment Insert.https://www.bhphotovideo.com …FA_230_Insert.html?sts=pi (external link)

It allows me to have the 100-400ii or 70-200 f/2.8ii attached to the camera parallel to the insert. That way, I can have a few more lenses in the insert itself.

Now.... my bag is heavy but I use a Rugged Gear 3 gun cart to carry my gear most of the time. I don't do any heavy hiking.. just sort of strolling around nature preserves, etc. so the cart is an easy way to carry my bag, tripod, monopod, water, etc.

http://www.ruggedgear.com …=179/mode=prod/prd219.htm (external link)

I did have to add some lead shot in a bag in the very front of the cart to counter balance it. When I have my camera/lens attached to my tripod or monopod, the cart would tip backwards without it. I found 8 pounds did it, though I have another back with just over ten pounds in it that I use if I know I'll be using my tripod all the time.

My camera goes in to the bag with a lens attached, usually the 24-70.

Every time I take second lens I struggle. I prefer to decide which focal length I'll need before I go out. After hundred of thousands pictures taken the guess is almost always accurate. :) And I'm using primes only now. :-)

For my maid camera there is always a lens on, my backup body never has a lens on it until I am about to use it.

I'm kinda tipping back over to the zooms again after being all prime.... I think I'm finding the key to having the right zooms and the right primes now...

Always with a lens attached. The lens of choice does not have any great forward thinking applied to it. More of whatever lens was on it when I set it down last. :)

Honestly, it would probably take me 10+ minutes to find the body cap. I am pretty sure it is in the closet where I store my stuff, but I am also pretty sure it has fallen off the shelf.

My camera is almost always mounted onto one lens or another, but I can't even remember the last time I had it in any sort of a bag.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Lens mounted. Both bodies, each in their own bag. And then the 70-200 has it's own bag. so 3 bags carry all the cameras+lenses I own.

Godox/Flashpoint r2 system, plus some canon stuff.

Both bodies of mine have a lens mounted. Usally one has 18-55 kit lens and other has a 55-200 or 55-250 on it. It's in one of those lowepro bags mentioned before, it's proper name is urban reporter 350 and is 35L capacity. I have about 7 lenses in it.

So I've always always always have had a lens mounted when the camera is in the bag and when I pull it out and needed a different lens I would swap then. Typically It's ready to go when I pull it out. I see some though that always have the camera dismounted w/ the cap on it. It use to be the 24-70 would be mounted 100% of the time in my bag but now it's the 200/2.

How do you prefer yours and why?

I keep my 7D2 + KenkoDGPro1.4 + 400/4 DO II assembled in my knapsack most the time, and sometimes without the TC or with the 2xIII. I walk for many miles with it on my back sometimes, and ride on buses and the NYC subway with it often. Unless someone hits me in the back of the knapsack with a big rock or a baseball bat, I can't see the room for any damage. I'm not going to lean hard against anything hard behind me in any way that is going to stress the mounts, like a horizontal bar. The mounts can handle the weight of the camera and TC, IMO, or any tension formed in the knapsack.

Carrying everything disassembled requires padding them from each other so they don't bang against each other; too much trouble for me.

However, do as I say and not as I do: baby your equipment with isolation and padding. ;-)a
