What is it?

Caught (hanging out?) in a spiderweb by our cable junction box.

I found it by PURE chance.

On the way to pick up a suit from the dry cleaners, I saw a spider hanging underneath the overhang of a garage.

Intending to take some pictures of the spider later in the day, I found that it had disappeared.

I then walked around the edge of the apartment and parking lot looking for other subjects. The robber fly was hung up (I think) in a web next to the cable TV junction box on the side of the building. Surprisingly, it was still alive. There was no spider in sight. Focusing was a chore because the wind was blowing the web back and forth, in and out of focus.

I left the camera configured for outdoor macro overnight, so we'll see what I can come up with today.
