[Rebel T6] Is it possible to change how long the viewfinder's light meter needle shows up?

A friend of mine purchased a new Rebel T6 body off eBay and has been learning how to shoot on it. When she presses the shutter half-way, the light meter's needle only shows up for exactly 4 seconds and disappears. She has some eye problems and needs extra time to see the needle and read everything carefully. No matter what we do, we cannot get the light meter's needle to stay up longer.

Is there ANY hope for this camera? I am surprised that it is the newest rebel and yet does not allow the user to change this. Can any Magic Lantern hack do this???

Even worse is they took the back-button focus button out, so now both metering and focusing happens on one shutter release button. Re-metering forces the camera to re-focus and that is so annoying. Should we reverse back to an older rebel or something that has these options? Even the old Canon 60D can back button focus!

How disappointing...

I just looked at mine, which is a 6D and realize its a different camera.....if I do the half press and release, I get about 4 seconds of display as well. However, if I hold the half press, which is what I do when shooting, the displays stays as long as I want to hold it or until I full press.

So it sounds like she is doing a half press and release, which is not what she should be doing when shooting anyway as the camera will then have to start the focus operation over again when she decides to shoot.

Half press and hold it and I believe she will get the display for a long as she wants. Then full press and......picture. ;-)a

Hi Saea501 thanks for the response.

We've already tried this and while it works, it's not practical because the process of metering also requires us to release the shutter button and adjust all the other dials to change the exposure. She is a bit slow so while doing this, the needle disappears right away and she has to start all over. The cycle...

Interesting, I tried this already and it didn't work for us. I will look again, thank you for the push.

you should be able to get your BBF working again, but as far as i have found the meter and viewfinder display cannot be changed on my 6D.

annoys the crap out of me sometimes too. Should be a C.Fn.

For the usual BBAF setup you would probably want to use option three in that list, not option 1. My 50D has the dedicated AF-on button, but I swap it with the * anyway, so that I can use BBAF when using the grip controls. If you didn't you wouldn't be able to focus using the grip if using BBAF. I also have the AE/AF no AE Lock set too. This is the same setup as was used on the 10/20/30D bodies.

Check for Menu options.

My 7DII has a Metering Timer choice on page 6 of the camera Shoot control choices. 4 sec. is the shortest choice, probably factory default for max battery life...the choices go up to 30 mins. !

that is for live view, not view finder.

Is that from 50d manual?

Not much contest on that page, still kind of looks like LV.

Auto exposure lock "hold" function is typically tied to the camera's sleep/standby mode and is activated by making the * button a *H button.
