There is a suspicious resemblance to a fish fly.

It's not a Damsel. It's some kind of Baetis, possibly a blue-winged olive.

What did this USED to be? It was right next to the live one and resembles it. It looks like something ate the middle out of it, as well as the head. Some sort of parasite?:

According to Wikipedia, fish flies have feathery antennae, which this lacks.

May fly, perhaps?

I know more about invertebrates than the average person, but I'm no expert.

Wikipedia points in that direction.

The life cycle of the aquatic upwing flies is nymph -> sub-imago -> image, shedding it's skin between each stage..

I just got done reading that on Wikipedia. It doesn't really give any dimensional proportions between the sub-imagoes and the adults, so I wasn't sure.

Supposedly, it's the only insect which has an imtermediary winged stage which molts into another.

Thanks.

I thought the robber fly looked good, but this one was even better.

It's just been a long process of trial and error (and no subjects).

I have a spider living in the driver's side mirror of my car. There's spider web all over the mirror and window, WITH mayflies, gnats, etc. in it... but for a couple of weeks, no spider.

When it comes to interesting insects around here, it's been like waiting to see bigfoot riding on the back of the Loch Ness monster... -?

And four eyes!

Reading Wikipedia last night, I learned that the males have a dimorphic trait of additional upward facing eyes, used in mating.

The one that looks like it exploded is pretty wild.

May flies, unlike all other insects, has an intermediate flying stage that metamorphoses into an adult flying stage.

I've learned quite a bit about may flies in the past couple of days.
