I have always used adobe bridge to view my cr2 files but I hated how long it took to view when I clicked to view 100 percent. I am just now trying fast picture viewer. Wow is it fast to view cr2 at 100 percent. I was just wondering what you guys are using to view yours? I would like to see whats out there before I buy one.

I didn't see what operating system you use.

Current Windows 10 opens 7D2 CR2 files natively and you can zoom on them.

I am using windows 10 and mine doesn't open mine from my 7d2. It did my 7d though.

I just use Windows viewer. With older versions of Windows I had to download a driver from Canon to view Canon RAW thumbnails...I haven't had to with Windows 10. Looks like for some reason, yours doesn't have the drivers. If you wanted to, you could probably get them from Canon.

Faststone image viewer for viewing CR2, RW2 and other formats. What's not to like about it - and it's free!

+1 for Faststone. It actually is fast (at least for extracting the jpeg preview).

another +1 for faststone image viewer - it can even do some simple editing and create jpeg from the raw.

Yet another vote for Faststone! I've been using this for years. It has an oldschool look to it, but all I care is that it works.

I've been in there a ton lately organizing photos from 2006...horrible task since I'm a procrastinator. It flies thru my 30D RAW files like they're nothing, 50D about the same, pretty quick with the 7D2, and a little slower with 5D4 but nothing to complain about. I guessing that has some (or all?) to do with my computer as well.

I like setting the standard zoom (click and hold) to 100% for checking sharpness/focus. I think it does something else by default.

IrfanView works great and is free, and you can do simple editing with it.

IrfanView can't seem to read ARW files (Sony RX100 raw files) but works great with CR2 files.

Faststone and fast picture viewer seem to be the best out of all the ones listed. Also when I installed fast picture viewer it comes with a codec pack to install. That lets windows view the files from my 7d2 and it is plenty fast as well. The one thing that Adobe does that none of the others do, is I can see the cr2 that I have already edited. The other ones scroll through the images but you can't see if it has been edited or not. I recently went to Yellowstone and I took about 7000 photos. I have been skipping around and looking at different days and working on photo here and there. I was using faststone last night and I would see a image that looked good zoomed in so I went to edit it in Photoshop. Once opened I see it was already edited. I will probably have to stick with Adobe bridge for that reason. I can't believe they can't figure out how to speed up that part of the process. Thanks all for your input.

Not sure I understand correctly, but are you referring to seeing the adjustments in the preview after editing the raw file? When you make an edit, it generates an .xmp file which saves that information. I noticed that in Adobe Bridge and thought it was a great feature. But I just can't get used to using Bridge or Lightroom exclusively, so I'm stuck with Faststone and not seeing the edited file. I'm sort of OK with that, but I wish it behaved like Adobe.

I just downloaded the Faststone viewer due to the responses in this thread and it's just what I'm looking for. My workflow usually consists of loading the raw files into a desktop folder and then using Canon's DPP viewer to cull through them real quick just to see which ones were good enough to import into Lightroom for further editing. The problem with that method is I couldn't find a way (maybe because there isn't) to zoom in on an image to see if certain things were in focus. So I'd end up importing stuff into LR and then having to use it's zoom feature (which could take a couple of seconds per photo if smart previews weren't built on import) just to find out that the photo isn't quite in focus enough. Faststone took care of that problem as you can instantly zoom in on a particular part of an image to see if there's a problem.

One thing I don't like about Faststone is that I can't find a way to continually show the shooting info for every image as you can in DPP. There are times where I like to see what aperture or shutter speed I was at when I took a certain photo and I can't seem to find a way to have that info shown without having to click on every photo to reveal it. Maybe it's just me not digging around enough and if so maybe someone can tell me how it can be done, if in fact it can. Otherwise, a great culling tool, thank you all for the suggestion.

Fast picture viewer does that if you are talking about scrolling through your photos in full screen. I noticed while doing that in faststone it doesn't give you that info. Both apps are similar. Both very fast. I don't think the quality of the 100 percent view of the photo is the best quality of a view of your photo. I am guessing that is why it loads the 100 percent view so fast. I am afraid I may have deleted some photos using one of these apps because I didn't think it looked that great. I am back to using adobe bridge now.
