Well ... I truly believe that the photographs are more important than the kit. If you think that is a bad thing, please just say so.

Someone is paying 2K for the camera, and this thread is about a 2K camera.

If you lived inside of a vaccuum, I suppose the camera would be great, however, the market is competitive. Some will feel trapped by canon due to lenses, and that's NOT a feeling you wish to have.

if you merely care for the arts and dont care for the specs, then why bother shooting something with something that costs 2k? Shoot with a Rebel and be done with it.

In all reality, every camera Canon makes is to minimize production costs and maximize profits, that is the goal of just about every company out there. That isn't the fault here. I think with declining sales over the past 5 years, Canon is unable to put significant funds into the R&D they once could, and it is starting to show kinks in the armor. It is what it is at this point. We will know more here within 3-4 years, once Fuji bails out Nikon, then see what the landscape looks like. :(

Our dutch is in blue and it'll be a cold day in hell before that thing leaves my kitchen. That and our 2 different sized crocks!

I had the 50D and I loved it. We ended up keeping the 40D as the backup and I freaking hated that LCD.

And the AF spread on the 6DII is VERY odd.

It is not odd at all when you think its AF sensor is simply a recycled APS-C AF sensor for cost saving purposes.

Strange, because the 40D LCD was just an upsized 30D, and the 50D LCD was just an upsized 40D, if I remember correctly? There was nothing really special about the 50D LCD, was there? Perhaps my memory is off...

This is a good point. And I noticed that the Sony replacements have taken longer this time around. There's no way they could keep up replacing models at the speed they had been doing. Though I know they keep there older models on sale.

I've noticed that the time in between the a7ii to a7iii has been longer than the a7 to a7ii. 13months for the mark 2 to come out now almost 3 years for the mark iii.

200K -> 900K dot lcd upgrade.

TDP 920,000 dot/VGA resolution, 3.0-inch Clear View rear LCD screen. This LCD is the same size as the EOS 40D camera's LCD, but it has four times the pixel count'

The 50D's LCD is way sharper and showed images much clearer than the 40D/1d3/1ds3

Yup, that is exactly my point.
Now, we all know that the camera market is declining globally. How come Sony (and others) are investing in R&D and releasing innovative products at such a fast pace, while Canon is mostly focused on cost-reduction ?

Not sure if you saw my post above yours. But Sony is NOT replacing at the same speed it once was. They were on a 1 year replacement.(a7/a7r/a7s/a6000/a6300/ were all on a 18mo or less cycle) The a7ii came out 3 years ago this fall. a7rii came out 2 years ago and that doesn't have a replacement date as of yet if I'm not mistaken. Both replaced their first version around the 1 year mark.

So no, they are not producing at such a fast pace. Their first replacements were solely correcting issues(ergonomics - front dial) and menu systems, and to add that awesome eye-focus I wish canon would come out with. There's no way they could keep up replacing every other year.

But I believe that at that time, the jpg result that was shown for Raw images was still a very low res version, so the lcd did little for improving the iq. I guess for jpg files though, it would have been better, I always shot in raw though. The banding on mine was atrocious too at high ISO. :(

To repeat an earlier response ... the best photograph by far that I have recently seen on POTN was taken with a 5Dii coupled with a 50mm/1.4. I don't think any other combination of kit would have helped improve it.

To me, it is pretty much obvious we should give up on endlessly exploring our own not very interesting orifices and put an end to this stupid and useless 6Dii discussion.

(But, since I have already promised, then reneged on, my own departure from it, I know this isn't going to happen.)

Comment and (constructive) criticism always welcome.

There you go again, belittling those that have an interest, but you don't, so you become the resident Internet bully? Just unsubscribe from the thread, it won't show up in your purple bar any longer. ;) You will be happier for it, and have time for more beer or a joint, depending on where you are!

I don't have either anymore but I strongly remember the 50D's lcd was vastly superior(I had them both at the same time 40D was my wife's 1st camera). It was an achilles heal on my 1Ds3 too. Well, that and the -1ev for dark environments. That's what forced me to buy the original 6D. Both my 1d3 and 1ds3 would not focus during wedding receptions. But I really loved everything else about that camera. I miss that camera.

Plus it would be completely off topic, like the pan/cooking tangent... (which I perpetrated) :D
