It has to be a 2nd gen IS lens with a MkIII extender for 5D4 and 1DX2,. I think this is true of the 6D2 as well.

ie:
All the new 2nd gen big whites, 300mm f/2.8 IS II, 400mm f/2.8 IS II, 500mm, 600mm, and then the 100-400mm and 200-400mm.

I can't recall of the 800mm is new enough to count,. but I don't think so.

That would make sense.

I think Canon has made it misleading about the AF compatibility with lenses and extenders. I was under the mistaken impression about more AF points supporting f8 from a DPR initial hands on impression of the 6D2. I'm sure their thorough review will be better detailed. Cheshire Cat had a helpful link. Canon only provides info about this at the 0:42 mark of their autofocus f/8 video

Might be good to have some kind of reference for camera models and lens/tc combos....info doesn't seem to be readily available.

FYI 80D also has this same f/8 capability.

and yes it is odd, this article does state that only the 100-400mm and 200-400mm apply.
Maybe this is so,. but on the 5D4, it includes all the new Gen II IS big whites. So mallrats is probably correct about it being different from 5D4,.

I dont know why but this just bothered me a bit as if every person who picks up a dslr must learn every aspect of photography so that they can be be a great photographer. And if i am upgrading then i am most certainly doing it for the sole reason that i expect the camera to give me more professional results. Or as we would say on potn the camera would allow me more oportunities to be able to capture the moment more easily.

I was referring to an expectation that some folks have that all you need to get great photos is a great camera without having to put any skin in the game learning how to use it properly. A better camera won't give you more professional results on it own, It still requires an eye and brain behind it which understands how to use it to it's best advantage. A really good photographer can get much better photos from a 10 year old entry level DSLR than a newbie can get from the latest professional level camera.

No bias. I was talking about a couple of bucks back then.
Nowadays it is still a couple of bucks, but you get a chip with faster WiFi.

I guess the 80D has the same AF chip. It was originally made for APS-C and recycled for the 6D2, in spite of the bigger format.
