Can't really dispute what you've said.........

Canon excluding dual cards is truly a bold statement to tell people to pay more for a 5dmk4 for professional piece of mind. Or go with the flagship 1dxmk2!

At the end of the day people choose their tools for their requirements. I'd like to buy a 6d2 for documenting school functions/family documentation as the 6dmk2 is almost like an 80D with a full frame sensor.

I said don't read too much into it, and here you are reading too much into it.

Then you should make clear the claim that "I" would like X in this camera without following it up with "<insert generalization about a demographic>." That's what I'm addressing.

Not that I care that much for it, but that's called a straw man. I think we're almost at the end of our discussion. I'm not taking issue with what you're saying, just how you're saying it. I agree that true 1080P resolution at 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 8 or 10 bit would have been nice in a more efficient codec (H265). But I think if you're disappointed with it not having 120P, you're still looking for features in the wrong camera. If HFR is a priority for you, get the FS5 or FS7. The FS700 is incredibly affordable now for that purpose. Hopefully Canon will release the C100 Mark III next year to address your wishes, but until then, those are your options.

I don't know what you guys think the 6D is going to drop to. The 5D2 is still going strong at $700-800...5 years after being replaced. Canon's not going to drop the 6D2 before Christmas. It might have a sale by then but I have a feeling it'll be a mail-in-rebate vs instant discount.

Why do you think it'll drop below $800(average clean prices, not the high mileage 'well used') ? I think it's going to hold personally, and the 5D3 around $1300, used 6D2 $1500-1600, new $1800 next summer.

6D will hold it's ground on the used market for the sole fact that it's still a great high ISO body. It's value is prime right now. It's a freaking great camera for $900 used. And I think people will be willing to keep buying it at near that price.

You read me backwards. I am counting on the 6D to NOT drop much, if at all.

I find that kind of comment to be so lacking in substance I usually just tune it out. However, with the impending 6D release I have seen it more often, and expect to see it again and again this summer and into the fall, so ...

For 99.999 percent of my shooting, the 5D III would be a downgrade from my 6D, and I am a paid professional.

Some forget about this whole other genre of photography called commercial studio photography. Yes indeed, we still exist! I shoot all day and night without a card even in the camera.

Or, I shoot via wifi from my phone which is impossible out of the box with the 5D III.

So no, it is not that obvious of a decision.

Nope, doesn't happen as much as one would think. At least in the venues I am in (and that includes Sports Illustrated shooters), wifi isn't all it's cracked up to be. It is still very flaky, range is poor, and battery life isn't great, even with the 1D and the wifi module. Especially in an environment that is inundated with wireless devices and networks.... They also don't want the device being managed remotely as they are shooting. It's okay if used more casually, but not in that fast paced environment.

Cards are still very, very prevalent, and card runners still have a job.

First off the 6D was released in Nov. It was not put on sale in Dec 2012. So if you bought (Bassat) for Christmas, it'd been on the shelf for 13mo. And even then I don't remember them dropping it that low until 2015.

And there's no way Canon's going to drop the price $500(25%) in the first 6mo. Maybe, maybe they'll do a mail-in-rebate for $100-150 tops.

The orriginal 6D dropped pretty quickly at least according to Camelcamelcamel. As an earlier poster mentioned, within 1 year the camera was being discounted quite heavily for the xmas season and within 6months it did drop about $400.

How about streaming the 6D2 constantly via wifi at a wedding for wedding photogs? Would that work as a essentially better option than having a second SD card by having a back up instantly on a laptop drive? Would it work for that?

Well with larger venues, looks like ethernet speeds are one of the selling points for stadiums:

To meet in the middle, this slightly older article from Scott Kelby's workflow says that he used fast memory cards, but was also publishing photos via ethernet during the game. Would be interesting to see if his workflow has now changed with improvements in wifi:

FEChariot, here's an example workflow of the 6D's wifi for professional use. You could post directly to social media, or if you have your own hosted site, can post photos to your own secure server. Maybe for wedding, you can select just a few of the photos to post in a public folder so that wedding guests get a preview of what's to come....to have more marketing to get them to order prints from the final edited catalog.

Film didn't hold 1000 exposures then or they might have been a bit larger. It was one thing to loose 24 or 36 shots but odds were you didn't loose everything back then. If I were a pro today and wanting to use a 6D2, I would be buying a lot of smaller cards.

Ive been shooting since 1974. I would NEVER cover a wedding with todays technology with a camera that did not have dual cards

Yup. I got the kit plus a pro 100 printer, pile of paper, and a second card for $1800 USD. I think this was 12 or 18 months after announcement though. Used price on the lens was 750, easily.

Maybe not much of a solution for your needs. The images aren't "low res previews", but they are usually straight out of camera jpegs. Lauren Margolis's article states that they went with a wifi workflow to be able to quickly deliver the photographer's images to social networks.

not for everyone but a must for others

most PRO sports shooters I know shoot full res jpeg to both cards, Cull in Photo mechanic, send straight off camera files to editors within 1-3 hrs of event ending time. They have a solid routine down. some use wifi others dont.

I'm sorry but I do not trust that website for accurate retail pricing. I'm not talking about 1-off sales. I'm talking about going into a local camera store retail price. I'm 95% positive it was $1899 Christmas 2013
