I'm looking and don't see any sources of the 6D2 coming from DPR. The only source that rumor threads seem to be quoting are what's been quoted here already:

Photographic Dynamic Range versus ISO (external link)

But again, when you follow the link in the notes, which goes to the DxO Mark tests, the 6D2 isn't listed.

Indeed ... this whole business is seriously lacking in transparency. It smacks of fake news to me ... but, again, best to be patient and be ready to wait.

And we won't need to be that patient - it's only a couple weeks to the first 6D2s shipping iirc.

I think that it is normal to expect that the 6D2's DR will not be quite as good as the 5D4's, but to think that Canon would deliberately leave DR worse than that of its older DSLRs is also unbelievable imo.

I just stumbled upon the German Canon product video for the 6DII where they clearly state: Grösserer Dynamik-umfang, meaning "better (bigger) dynamic range".
I was rather surprised to see this as I don't think I saw this statement in the English/US version.

Thanks, that's interesting.

I found the video and it is on the Youtube channel of "Canon Deutschland", so unless the German division of Canon is going rogue, it seems to be a official Canon statement, or at least a hint at what is coming. 'Hope it's true.

Love my current 6D except for the suboptimal peripheral focusing system and limited dynamic range. The new 6d2 seems to have done a beautiful job addressing focusing system and I'd have no hesitation buying it if Canon equips it with their newest sensor design.

But, to intentionally cripple the 6D2's dynamic range in the face of such strong completion from Sony and Nikon sensors would seem myopic. There are other ways to differentiate it from the 5d4.

And we know these will include: robust but less than tank-like build with weather protection that probably isn't quite as good; one memory card slot not two; somewhat less super-duper auto-focusing system; slower frame rate; no magic multi-controller button; fewer customization options; slightly fewer direct access control buttons; lower resolution LCD; (probably) lower maximum shutter count and maybe one or two other components that are a little less durable; 1/4000 c.f. 1/8000 maximum shutter speed. Oh ... and slightly lower pixel count ... and no 4k video, which I forgot because it's not an issue for me..

On the plus side: it will have a tilty-flippy screen and will be a bit smaller and lighter and it will have electronic IBIS in video mode.

That seems fair enough to me, assuming the DR turns out to be the German variety.

Seems like maybe the lawyers have stepped in. I doubt Canon would have bothered with that unless the deleted posts were seriously misleading.

It might follow the same technology but still be noisy thus affecting DR.

Canon claims it is LESS noisy at high ISOs than 5D4.

Still, more data is needed before I draw any conclusion. A few leaked raw files from a unknown camera is not enough to show what the final product will be like. I'm really hoping that the leaked files are wrong....

Indeed, me too.

It is not how it went down for the last gen, 6D which followed right on the heels of the 5D3 had better noise handling and DR,.

The timing is right for a similar situation, and in this case, even if the sensor has not evolved past the 5D4 tech, it does have larger photo sites which in the past has often = ea little better of like generation.

And now the DPR thread stating that the first thread had been deleted has also been itself deleted. Whole lot of panicking going on over at DPR at the moment it seems.

Panicking or just cleanup? Also notice the supposed 6D2 RAW at the FM thread is a broken link...

Official: Canon Announces the EOS 6D Mark II (external link)

The DR speculation is certainly showing how much internet rumors can spread!
