I only wanted the body, I don't need all those "extras". :)

The DR handling on this seems pretty close to the 5D4, so that is good for a $550 body! Often during our shots for MLS listings, we will have situations that we need to show the outside with the indoors. This wasn't good, and was binned, but it shows the strength of a single shot. I have no idea of how many stops, but certainly more than 2.

TeamSpeed,
Can you please check if it is showing red active points in view finder during servo tracking? Did Canon add flash commander for firing remote flashes?
Looks like Canon even gave bigger view finder to SL2 compared to Rebels. But they skimped on focusing system in order to match the price point. I wish it has more focus points or at least all cross type like t5i. I am seriously thinking about moving from 80d to sl2 to save on size and weight. SL2 makes more sense then M5. I was doing fine with t3i focusing system before.

Did you just pushed the exposure slider or shadows slider in DPP. Pushing shadows is limited with DPP workflow. With ALO and Shadow slider, there is a some room.

I pushed up the shadows slider in DPP a bit (don't max it out, not good effects IMO), probably about 2 notches from far left. I then used the highlights/shadows tool in CS5 to bring this up the rest of the way, alot more control.

No lit AF points in AI servo in all points AF. :( It doesn't matter much to me, I always select my AF point though.

The viewfinder is pretty large for a Rebel, or a mini-Rebel. The SL1 had these AF point layout, so I expected that. It makes it a bit more difficult to shoot over the other cameras I use, but this is basically a backup to a backup, and will be our travel camera, so shots of the family on vacation, some animal shots, floral shots, food shots, etc. It is our "memories" body. For those that want to do more, you should, but it will be more work. Much like the 6D2 shooters that wanted more DR instead of less, they will be able to get high DR shots, but it will take more work and more post processing, thus a nuisance.

Photons to Photos now has some new SL2 data so you can use all the charts to compare to the 80D, 6D2, whatever. Interesting stuff! At least ISO 100 is pretty cool (and the SL2 seems to closely match the 80D in all charts, confirming that it uses the same sensor as the 80D).

Thanks TeamSpeed. I am assuming we need to track with manual center point and keep subject in the middle. Does it lit center focus point indicating subject in focus during servo tracking?

I am excited about the little SL2 , I shoot with a 6D with 24-105 most of the time. My travel camera it's been a sony a6000 but after a couple of years I am not super happy with the a6000.
It's focus is fast but not very reliable and the IQ and colors are nowhere near the 6D imo even when dxo gives the same number to both sensors
This SL2 looks promising, inexpensive, good IQ , can mount my canon lens
I'm going to give it a shot.

Get a 40mm pancake lens and get an effective 64mm view at f2.8 for a very small package that fits in coat pockets or cargo pants pockets!

Ive been considering selling my 80d and getting the sl2 ..just because of size..
My 80d has pretty much b3com3 a video camera that takes a photo occasionally as my fuji setup has become my primary stills camera
Most often in run and gun type situations , awb , autofocus

Just remember that the archilles heel of the SL2 is its antiquated 9pt AF system. If you don't need that, or just use center point, then that shouldn't be too much an issue. If they had put a better AF system in it, I would have been willing to spend $100-200 more for it, personally, but it would then probably cannibalize the 77D sales (which I don't understand the purpose for anyways).

I agree: why get a 77D if I can buy a 80D for the same or not much more money?
An SL2 with the 80D,77D,T7i focus system would make many Sony a6xxx or Fuji x series think twice about their options
I am waiting for Canon bring some November rebates and I think will pull the trigger on an SL2 , I think it will be a nice travel, throw in the bag camera for me

Hi Borison,
There are some printer rebates going on now. SL2 with kit lens and printer bundle is going to be $400 after MIR. That felt like a great price for new Camera. Kit lens is a latest smaller lens. Printer can be sold as well. I got this bundle to try it out and see if i can move to SL2 from 80d. I am planning to sell one of them in future after playing with SL2.
