Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2

Here are a couple quick shots from this weekend.

Both are shot with a 5D MK3 on a tripod 2 second timer and remote trigger. I did have IS enabled as it was a little bit of a breeze and the factory neck strap is on the camera. I tried to keep the strap tight where the wind did not catch it causing shake.

I tried a couple in bulb setting but I am not well educated on my wireless trigger. Not sure f I needed to hold it or press to open then again to press to close. I tried both ways but didn't seem to work well either way. I guess I need to read the book. I would have liked to lower ISO but not loose DOF hence why bulb would have made sense. Also the moving lights would have been different.


At 100% crop, even with the noise seen, it looks pretty darned nice.

Tamron will fix that if still under warranty, they did for mine that drained my 6D.

Evidently it was only the first run that had the problem... not all G1 lenses and only with certain bodies.

would love to see some portraits with this lens using canon bodies. looks nice.

Some from this weekend. I just got the Camera (5diii) and lens on Friday. I am far from a pro, but have bought and sold quite a few camera/lenses. This is by far my favorite already. The 70-200 g2 Tamron comes tomorrow and can’t wait for it. Critique the pics if you like, as I said, I am far from a pro.

Even though they're small kids.....get that shutter speed up! 1/500 at a minimum for that age.

Thanks for the advice, will try it next time! Note: all of the pics were shot in aperture priority mode set to f2.8 and everything else was auto.

I bought this extremely heavy lens a couple of months ago. I found it good but not all that. A bit disappointed, I invested in the Tap-In console and that made my lens really rock.

I have a Canon 80D along with Tamron 17-50 2.8 and 70-200 2.8.

I'd like to eventually upgrade the 17-50 with this 24-70. Following that would probably be an upgrade to a full frame body.

I've heard that it would not be good to put this lens on a crop body like my 80D. The reason given was that this is a "full-frame lens" and would result in some vignetting in the images. I've not seen that with the 70-200, so would it happen on the 24-70?

What are your thoughts on this?

I have no issues with it on my 7Dmkii. If there is some vignetting on the 7dmkii, it hasn't screamed out to me and I do shoot a 5dmkiii with this lens as well.

This lens is a good preformer on both bodies.

The statement that a full frame lens should cause vignetting on a crop censor seems a bit backwards. The crop censor effectively shows only the centre part of the image projected through the lens, and as vignetting happens at the edges, it would result in less vignetting on a crop body.

You would end up with a lens that might feel a bit long though. 24-70 mm would Translate to somerhing like 38-122 mm on a crop body.

Otter than that the lens is amazing, and should you consider a full frame body at some point you can still use it.

Finally pulled the trigger. I have known for a while I would be replacing my G1 with either the G2 or the Canon 24-70mm L II. Went back and forth a lot, but just couldn’t come across a review that seemed to justify the price difference and lack of IS on Canon.

The only issue I ever had with many G1 was focus speed (and draining the battery on my 6D even with camera off, but Tamron fixed that for me).

Seems that according to everything I have read the G2 has really stepped it up. Should be in my hands on Thursday from Adorama.
