I guess I am weird. I value the time with my wife, and the experiences, more than any photograph. On my deathbed, i am sure i won't lament missed photo ops.

My favorite vacation time is when both my wife and I take our cameras and go out shooting together. And it does not matter where it is.

Florida - it means birding in the Everglades and wetlands with the long telephoto lenses.
Amsterdam/Paris/Naples/London - street photos and architecture with a normal zoom.
Beach on Cape Code - nothing, just phones.

Heya,

Got back from St Augustine today. Figured I'd share a few of my daughter and how we roll vacay-portrait (she's a ham!). We were there for the 4th of July fireworks and stayed in a nice little old inn (the Collector, highly recommended!).

Used the 5Dc and 17-40L with a Yongnuo 685 (ETTL+HSS). I pretty much shot entirely in TV mode at sync speed, full depth of field, and controlled ambient with camera, and used a single speedlite for key/fill to isolate the subject in any light by shooting close proximity (more intense light output, so a speedlite can muster against the sun). Most of these are at 17mm. I wanted to keep the environment involved in a big way. No blurry backgrounds on this trip! I'll put a post up in the lighting forum soon for anyone that cares to know how I worked the speedlite (link to post about my portable lighting setup used here).
