Could be Expensive - Damaged Lens

I've damaged my 24-70.

Just behind the focussing ring there now seems to be a gap that appears (you can just see it in the image) and I get the error message on the screen as seen in the other image.

Would anyone happen to know how 'repairable' this this?

I got that error last night while shooting spiders.

Turns out I had accidentally hit the lens lock button on the body and slightly rotated the lens stack (Tokina 100mm macro on top of ProMaster extension tubes on top of a ProMaster 2x teleconverter), breaking the connection. I reseated the lens stack and all was well.

Thanks, mine is definitely damaged. When apply minimum pressure on the side of the lens behind the focus ring, the gap opens and closes. I've tried applying pressure to each end in the hope that it will hold together but sadly it doesn't work for long.

All it takes is money!

I hope it isn't too much. I dropped my Bigmos last year and it was only $80 US to repair. I hope your repair is similarly inexpensive.

oof.........been there. Went skidding down a 15' bank. All was well until I hit a downed tree at the bottom. As I did everything I could to keep the camera(and lens) out of harms way. When tree and ankle met at the bottom I dropped the camera breaking the UV filter and damaging the focus ring rendering it useless.

Oh the pain, ankle and lens.

Off to Canon............

Thanks for the comments all. Sent it off to Canon repair and it came in at a little under £200.

It got a good clean at least
