I have a 1d mark iv and I was wondering if anyone had an answer to a question I have. So right now when I hold my shutter button down or use a release with it locked it will only shoot one frame and then stop. I want to shoot time lapses and this doesn't really work. Is there a custom function I can change to make this possible?

Jameson, you need this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com …O8A&is=REG&m=Y&sku=164271 (external link)

As usual, there are several third party vendors who sell a similar item for a lot less.

EDIT:
The 5D4, 7D2, and 80D can do this natively. Not sure about the 1DX2, but I would guess it does this, too.

I have a release. I used to be able to just lock it and put it on a 2 second timer and it would keep firing one shot after another. I recently cleared my custom functions and now I can't do that anymore. So I'm wondering what function I have to change.

Is the camera set to CONTINUOUS SHOOTING (burst, with the 3 boxes, you know - not ONE SHOT)

I have it set to 2 second self timer. That way it doesn't shoot too fast to fill the buffer.

EDIT: 2s self-timer is a one shot mode, you'll need to press the button every time you want a photo

I tried remote releases with both my 6D and 80D. On burst mode, I get full-speed multiple shooting. Any other mode gets only one-shot per press (or hold) of the remote button.

If you get a TC-80N3, you can use the intervalometer function (ONE-SHOT MODE) to set up whatever parameters you want. Say, take a photo every 3 seconds for 100 photos, or take a photo every 10 minutes for 24 hours, or whatever you want.

This function was not native to Canon cameras until the 7D2, 80D, 5D4, and (maybe, probably) 1DX2. B&H sells a Vello version of the TC-80N3 for about $50.

Ok, my mark II will do it, maybe I was thinking the IV did it and it never did.

1d mark ii sorry. In 2 second self timer I can lock the release and it will keep firing shots one after the other.

Interesting. I had a 1D2. I didn't know it would do that. Does it matter if you have the body set to back-button focus or not? On the 1D4, I mean.

I will have to try that when I get back home. I know it was setup that way when I got it.

Different cameras work different ways.
