I shot IMSA @ VIR last year with just a 70-200 on my 5DMK3, could have been better. Rented the 100-400 for IMSA @ Watkins Glen this year and OMG what a difference! I know where my 2017 tax returns are going. Best lens I've used yet, so clear and FAST.

These were scraped from my Facebook, so the quality isn't the best available.

This was the first year I've had the 100-400mm as well and I agree that it's great. Last year I used the 70-200mm and a 300mm 2.8, this year I brought the big 600mm to reach out for the head on shots, but the 100-400mm handled pretty much everything else.

Mind if I ask where you were shooting from? The all tree background and catch fence in the first shot are throwing me off, most of the spots I know to shoot from that are track level like that appears to be have campers or other things in the background. VIR's definitely on my list too someday, looks like an amazing track.

Those two photos were taken from The Grove hospitality area, right at pit entrance.

Interesting, I shot from there some last year but I must have been standing in a slightly different spot. Thanks, and nice shots.
