I have never earned a dollar professionally as a digital photographer, yet I have 3 dSLRs in my kit
I discontinued any income producing photographic services when transitioning from film to digital...I foresaw the added misery of the digital profressional photographer's increased workload (post processing vs. sending out film) and client expectations ("I want you to deliver thousands of wedding photos all on a DVD to me"

2-3 cameras? Why it is something special? Cameras are not cars to trade for newer one simply because here is no space on the driveway.

So, I have advanced FujiFilm digital P&S camera purchased in 2007 and my wife is using it as her main camera and I have Canon 500D purchased in 2009 and I'm using it. Plus, tiny P&S, I just purchased one for $20 on street sale yesterday instead of one I lost. Well, I also have Leica M-E, which I received as birthday gift.

And I'm trying to keep my film cameras herd under ten in count. Two film Leica. If you are using them, they have to go for CLA once in a while. My family FED-2, which I'm using since I turned sixteen or so. EOS300 camera which we used before going digital and so on. I'm not sitting on them, I'm using them for different photography, look.

Is having three fishing rods makes you a pro? ;-)a

I am sure that the non pro is far more likely to "collect" any given equipment than a pro is.

For the record, I used to have 4 cameras. Nikon N90s, Hasselblad 533 ELX, Nikon D7000, and Nikon D7200. Now, is down to three since I sold the Hasselblad kit, got more money for it than I paid for. The N90s is something I should have since I do shoot film but not sure if it would get used. The D7000 would be sitting inside the drawer from now on since I just upgraded to a D7200 3 weeks ago. Normally, I would have sold the D7000 but the camera is old. The left D pad direction isn't working. I won't get more than $250 for it. Why bother. Is going to be my second, backup body if I ever need one.

I do generate income from my photography though. Needs and wants must be balanced out by how much I am getting paid and would be getting paid.

I have a few cameras lying around. I've got a Canon AE-1 and a couple of Minolta Maxxum film SLR's that I keep for sentimental reasons (What I learned on with my Dad, who is no longer with us). An old Olympus Point and Shoot (C3000Z) that my 6 year old loves to play with but still takes nice (3MP) photos as I try to teach her about photography. Then there are the ones I actually use regularly... a 7D2, 5D3, and the most recently acquired Olympus E-M1 II that I bought when my wife decided she really liked my E-M10 II and it needed to be hers instead . So that's what? Seven at the moment. So my collection is more of a timeline of photography throughout my life instead of just a bunch of cameras that I want "right now".

I am not a pro, but own different cameras.
My current main camera is a Sony A7II, a Nex 3 ist for tests and such. But my old and partly repaired / modified EOS setup is still there, one EOS 5D with full reflective mirror optimized it for manual lens use, (external link) one EOS 5D with DIY reparied fuse (external link). Two Rebel XT / EOS 350D, one with a invention toeasily exchange filters for IR photography (external link). So those are not worth to sell, and so they stay.

But cameras are only the less interessting think, I love my lenses much more.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but a quick question. Do you use a converter with the Sony for your EF lenses, or do you have original Sony glass?

I have 7 cameras, and I thought that was a lot until I came to this thread. I've never been paid a cent for a photo either, this is all for fun. Most of mine are film though. I have a Canon 6d which is the only digital. For film I have Canon F1n, Canon EOS 3, Canon VI-L, Canon QL17, Canon AF35M II and Mamiya RZ67 Pro 2. I shoot with most of them too with the rangefinders and Mamiya getting the least amount of love. I have made it a point this year to shoot more film so that helps. The 6d only gets brought out for serious business.
