I just stumbled upon an article in a german photography blog regarding 5D Mark IV sensor cleaning.
They claim that you should not use cleaning liquids like Eclipse on the sensor, because it can dissolve the coating.
I never heard about that before. What is your take on this?

The early 5d2 sensors were like that, it was a design flaw that Canon seemed to fix later,. In this case Canon might have fallen into the same trap. However I have seen discussions that support cleaning with no issues, while others had issues. This is why this reminds me of the 5d2, or whatever FF in the past that had the same community driven concern.

I remember when I first bought my 5Dc when it was new. Since they didn't have self cleaning sensors, I immediately ordered an Eclipse cleaning kit (the sensor did seem to attract dust). I saw that Eclipse had a recall on some of their cleaners, because it was found that they would dissolve the coating of the 5D. Eclipse had seen where their current chemicals were doing damage to the sensor and then changed their emulsion. Guess they always have to be on it, and it's one of the reasons there's disclaimers about wet cleaning. With the new self cleaning sensors, I actually haven't found much need for wet cleaning.
