I sent mine in for that. I knew there was something off right away in servo mode. No reason that camera can't track a steady BIF (even if it is fast) using factory settings and be consistent during bursts. I set it up like my 7D which did not have case numbers. I used case 2 with TS set to -2. That has no real effect on initial AF acquisition or tracking anyway, just how it reacts if your all your AF points go off target. When you achieve focus and keep your points on it should be consistent. Shot that way for 5 years with my 7D.

I got lucky. New Jersey did a good job. A member at Fred Miranda had the same issues and NJ was waiting for a special tool from Japan. I waited until they got it before I sent mine in and was very specific in my service request. I have always had good service from NJ.

I sent mine to New Jersey three times. Mine had been perfect for ten months then started producing mush. They ended up sending me a new one that I never used. I was getting great results with my 1D IV.

Yea, that's not likely. My guess is that it will have a slightly upgraded sensor from the 80D or possible the 80D sensor itself.

if they did that it'd be putting a 3 year old sensor in a new body? i don't know what other kinds of bells and whistles they'd have to offer to off set that...

but i also think we'll probably get an upgrade to the 80D before the 7DIII

Come on now, Canon just put in a 5 year old sensor into the 6DII and the 80D is only 2 years old this February.

i'm sorry, but how is the 6DII sensor 5 years old...everything i've found online says it's a new sensor...where was the sensor in the 6DII previously used 5 years beforehand?

all the rumors now say there's no 7DII this year, which is why i said 3 years old assuming it comes next year

The sensor might be new but the technology, and performance, match the 5DIII. It's as if they started with the 5DIII and just updated it.

If history is any guide, about 2-1/2 years separated the 70D and 80D (down from 3 years between the 60D and 70D). So by that measure, a 90D in mid 2018 sounds about right.

On the other hand, a full five years separated the 7D and 7Dii, so it’s reasonable to think we might not see a 7Diii until late 2019.

True, so I bailed (for now) on the 7D3 and went for the 77D. It has the new sensor and most of what I need for what I shoot. No AFMA, but if the focus is noticeably out, I will send body and lens in for adjustment, and all will be well.

I hope the 7dMKIII doesn't have the 80D sensor,if so it will be a major fail,it needs to be BETTER at high ISO's than the 80D sensor.Hopefully it won't have 4K or a OLPF,it's a SPORTS/WILDLIFE camera!!Canon better pull out all the stops on this one,it better be at least = to the D500.

Some time ago, I sold my 1D4 for an 80D. It was the right move for me at the time, and the 80D's AF is as good as the 1D4's. But it ain't 10+ fps, and the custom functions are lacking, comparatively.

Keep the 7DIII. Offer me an down-spec'd aps-h 1DX. Thanks.
