Hi,

I'm a newbie who just bought this 1.4 III extender from a seller and upon close inspection, I see these spots. Is this normal?

Please help!

Thanks a lot.

I have never seen anything like that before, but i live in a dry climate.

Does it scrape off?
I don't think it is hard water spots as they are certainly too small for that.

If you can clean it off and it is just on the outside and not internal, i would not worry about it.

If it is a concern that will keep you up all night, return it for peace of mind. Just be sure not to get any inside your camera.

I have notified the seller about it and I did not want to do anything to it prior to his response.

Dried salt water?
It is outside of the lens, so it is not much of a problem, easily to clean. But it could be a sing of other problems with spray salt water or such inside other parts like focussing ring, zoom..

Looks like fungus to me. Return it to the seller. Even if it's not on the glass yet, it will spread eventually and ruin it.

Hi Robin,

You are right. I took it to an authorized Canon dealer store in my area and they told right away that it is fungus. They cleaned it but after me telling them that it was bought from a seller, they suggested me to return it as there is high possibility of it to return.

The seller has not responded but I will shoot an email through PayPal and pack this up back to him.

Thank you all so much for helping out. Highly appreciate everyone!

Raj

Glad I could be of help. Good thing you paid with PayPal, because they will help you out with these kind of problems.

I wouldn't be suprised if the seller knew about this beforehand and now tries to ignore you because of that.

Much luck finding a better copy :p
