Nice shots. I saw a Groove-billed once in Texas, but that was over 30 years ago.
They are reported down here fairly often but that news always attracts a crowd

I didn't know we got them in the states, fairly common in Costa Rica
They were pretty common back in the day but with the influx of people their habitat has shrunk

Good ones, Bob. I've seen both smooth- and groove-billed in Panama over the last two years; they are very strange birds, I think in the cuckoo family. One was even reported on the Canadian border west of us a number of years back, probably blown in with a hurricane or something.
