So after being out in the rain and my little AF selection point dial on the 7D revealed that it really doesn't like getting wet (plus my hands being soaked) I've decided I need a waterproof cover.

I have and still make use of the OPTech rainsleeves, but whilst they do work and are cheap they tend to tear rather easily I find; furthermore they are a loud flappy material which isn't always what I want at an event or when out and around. So I'm after something affordable that is far more durable.

I use a variety of lenses, however out in the rain I tend to be with either a 70-200mm f2.8 or a 120-300mm f2.8. I don't tend to do macro in the rain nor use my shorter lenses as often, plus a cover suitable for a shorter lens is likely not as good for longer and vis versa (longer ones would tend to leave a lot of material flapping around on a shorter lens, one would expect).

Tools of the trade: Canon 400D, Canon 7D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L M2, Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 OS, Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro, Tamron 24-70mm f2.4, Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6, Raynox DCR 250, loads of teleconverters and a flashy thingy too

You might explore the DiCAPac line at https://www.amazon.co.uk …brands_browse-bin=DiCAPac (external link).

I have used one for white water rafting and found it works well and is reliable in spite of it being several years old.

Not sure if that's a little overkill for in the rain, but certainly a very good starting point to work from!

Whatever the KATA E-702 is called post-Manfrotto acquisition... Hang on.

Manfrotto MB PL-E-702 (external link)

Ignore the jackass reviews. I installed an eyepiece in one of these (so I wasn't looking through plastic) and used it to shoot competition paintball for years. It's a great piece of kit for keeping the camera clean, and it's virtually impossible to tear or puncture by accident.

Out of interest how "loud" is it when you're using it with regard to the material flapping around in wind/rainfall or as you move and shoot?

I don't recall it making too much noise when moving. In the rain, you'll hear the raindrops hitting the bag, no way around it.

thinktank hydrophobia or aquatech covers seem to be the options around here.

I haven't used the thinktank, but have spent plenty of hours sitting on the sidelines with a 400 under an aquatech
good protection, reasonably quiet - but shooting in the rain sucks, there isn't that much that can improve it....

I have Think Tank and Aqua Tech gear for my big lenses as everything else goes in the bag if it starts to rain.

I saw it posted elsewhere and it resonated--Aqua Tech is in the "anti-water" business and it shows. Their gear seems to be less complicated than Think Tank's and protects as well if not better.

I also leave an inexpensive Storm Jacket <http://www.vortexmedia.store/> (external link); in my bag in case I forget to bring the other rain gear.
