Yes i know the 7Dmk11 and new 100-400 11 is a sweet piece of kit for this type of photography
but just wondering is anyone having fine results with the 80D
I have the 60D and the 100-400 series 1 lens that i use constantly
just looking for options to replace my camera body , thinking of staying with a APC
body atm , but suggestions for full frame paired with my existing lens even if she is an old one
would be greatly appreciated, anyone have 80D samples i could view ??
cheers and kind regards
Rick

Heya,

If you look at the 80D sample thread & the Birds in Flight and Bird Portrait thread, there's tons of birding examples.

The 80D is excellent for wildlife/birding. The AF is excellent, the ISO is good, and importantly the dyanamic range is good which is important for feathers and fur in various light.

Very best,

I am using it for birding. I had graduated from EOS 600D. Compared to 600D, this is far better in terms of focusing and colour rendition. However my lens is a limitation to tap the full potential of the camera.

I recently brought one to complement my 6D and so far have liked it. I haven't had the success of birds in flight I had hoped for but that might be down to my lack of experience in this particular camera.

In regards to going to full frame camera, you may miss the 'reach' you get with the x1.6 crop - I'd forgotten just what a difference it made. However, at low ISO's the full frame is noticeably better. If you're looking to go full frame then probably your best option is a used 5D Mk III though still quite expensive or of course you could splash out on the new Mk IV.

If you're sticking with crop and birding is your main interest the the 7D Mk II would be the best bet. I got the 80D ultimately because I wanted it video capabilities though I've come to really appreciate the touch and flip out screen.
