The lens flare on my 135 is pretty extreme and often weird looking (at least compared to my 70-200.)

Does this look normal for the lens?

I don't think I've ever seen flare from my 135L. Maybe it is just the way I shoot? Any way, if you're using a filter, remove it. If you're NOT using the hood, install it.

I never saw any type of flare from my 135 in the 1000+ photos i took with it when I owned it. I just looked and plenty are in bright daylight conditions with bright light sources in the image. I also always used the hood and never use filters. But if you did that as well something doesnt seem right in the lens then

Thanks. I always use a lens hood and never a filter.

Here is another shot. You can notice the strange looking flare on the right side.

There's a problem with the lens.

Is that the entire frame as shot, or a cropped section showing the flare? If its not a crop, what were you shooting?

Yeah, entire frame. I was just testing for lens flare.
Edit: another shot

I just took my 6D/135L outside. I had to put the sun (bright, sunny day) right in the corner of the frame, but boy did I get some flare. I've never seen this lens do this in normal use.

Proper Canon hood in place, no filters. Otherwise, this is a normal, properly functioning 135L.

I don't think so. Mine behaves the same with the sun at the edge of the frame. I've been shooting this lens for years, and have never seen this before.

I think we are agreeing. There is a problem with the OP's copy of the lens ... to be more specific than in my last post.

Nope. We disagree completely. My 135L behaves just like his. I posted some examples above that look as bad, or worse, than his. There is nothing wrong with my lens (I hope?).

This is more typical of my use of the 135L; semi-portrait candids.

But ... to my eye ... your flare doesn't really compare t the OP's flare .. so to speak. His is on another level.

Just checked. Pretty much spotless.

Another odd thing I noticed is in some of the "flares" you can see what seems to be sensor dust (when shot wide open.)

This is tight crop. Shot wide open at f2. Only ever noticeable in the flares.
