Except you inferred that having cross type sensors would help with no contrast solid coloring which is not correct. If there is no contrast then line and cross sensors are equally ineffective.
Center cross point will have a better chance recognizing texture in a shirt. Unless it's at night, the center point on my 6d has no problem focusing on a solid color where the outer points will not lock on. I don't have to think about which direction the line is going when using the center point.
If you talking about a colored smooth wall then no, it won't be easier than the outer points.
