I spent some time last weekend with the Swallow-tailed and Mississippi Kites in Allendale. The numbers were down from previous years but I finally managed a series of shots of a Swallow-tailed Kite perched. Two juvenile fledglings were calling for food and getting regular visits from the parents that were nearby catching insects in flight. The fledglings were able to fly very well but were taking advantage of the delivery service. It was difficult getting shots of the feeding since the incoming adult birds would block my view of the young birds and the feeding was over in a blink. The adult would fly off as soon as the food was taken by the young birds. Beautiful birds to observe and photograph.
