Lenses for Portland/Oregon trip?

Will be heading into Portland at the end of the month and going on a mini roadtrip around the area for mostly nature shots.

Will be bringing my 16-35 F4L IS and 70-200 F4L IS but wondering if I should consider a 3rd lens...

An astro lens? I don't really do any astro, but is portland area a good astro location? Certainly lots of interesting foreground possibilities.

My 35 1.4 for wider aperture shots - likely for around the city/lower light/better use of bokeh like shooting people in nature

24-105? I STILL continue to struggle with this lens. I don't love the softness/distortion on this lens, but the focal length is just fantastic for travel. With my 16-35 and 70-200, I don't have 35-70 covered including the standard 50mm focal range.

Something else? I have a longer telephoto than 200mm but not thinking I'd be needing that...

I just got back from there. Your lenses seem fine; there are some nice waterfalls up the Columbia River gorge. Try to see those early in the day, especially on a weekend as the parking lots filled fast. That city has a lot of promise, with respect to photography. I had a 50-500 with me, used for some telephoto shots of some of the volcanoes.

Should be fine with those lenses; if you fight with the 24-105, I'd probably leave it behind unless the 35-70 range is something you tend to shoot in a lot. You may find it nice to have the 35 1.4, but I'd forget astro; you're too close to city lights for it to be much good. Even 'out of town' there are too many towns/cities nearby that generate a ton of light pollution.

Depends on the road trip. If you are going to Central Oregon, the skies around John Day or Fossil are some of the darkest in the country.

Ah, any specific locations/shots to share? I'm still planning where to go photograph!

Woman's forum overlook @ dawn, Vista House, Multnomah Falls (I think everyone photographs those). Sandy River Delta park has the potential for train shots. Larch Mountain gives a view of all the local volcanoes. The old Rt. 30 has many waterfalls, but you'll have to hike to some of them.

Supposedly, the Japanese Gardens ($14 admission) has nice views of the city.

Eastbank Esplanade for a city view... also Pittock mansion. East of Portland is Jonsrud viewpoint.
Head up the Gorge and you have waterfalls galore.
Go downtown and shoot people.
