Set the meter to HSS, because I am using Godox I need to trigger the camera with the XT1 or XT32 attached to send the HSS pulse, you get a read out of aperture and 100% that flash is contributing to the overall exposure

Mike

Why need to trigger the camera? Can't XT1 or XT32 trigger the strobes which is what you are measuring, like any non HSS capable meter.

Got it, thanks Mr. Talley.

I found out you have to trigger a shot w/ the camera for it to actually pop in HSS. Pressing the test function is a non HSS pop. So trigger must be mounted to camera and you must take a photo.

I'll be ok with that. It'll work. Also for godox it will only meter down to 1/4 power in HSS. which also I'm fine with that since I'll want to be using it mostly during times when I'll need the power.

Little cumbersome way then.

You need to send an HSS signal which pressing the test button will not do, the Godox triggers only send an HSS signal when the camera attached has its shutter speed set in HSS range

Not light meter fault... godox fault. Is what it is. You won't need to do that if your not using HSS though. So for studio stuff where I'll be in manual non hss then hitting the test button will be fine.

I guess that is where a wireless trigger might come in handy then. Just do your readings while the camera is set up on the tripod or wherever with HSS turned on, and just hit the remote button. So the IR remotes or R/F remotes come in handy in this situation.

Got my light meter today. Verdict is wow... really good. I like it.

One interesting fact is it says my AD200 at 1/128 is doing a flash duration of 1/37000. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong but the manual only says 1/13000 w/ the fresnel head.

Either way it works. Me just messing around. HSS works great too. I absolutely love the feature where it tells me my flash/ambient balance in percent.

yes the wife walked in with a wtf look lol

I actually have an IR remote I could do just that but I don't plan on using tripod on location w/ HSS strobing.

HSS testing indoors seems to be abotu the same using HSS vs regular flash mode. So I'm not sure whats going on different but it's working and it's working down to 1/8 power. But this is just one test setup inside the kitchen.

I'll have to get out this weekend and see if I can do some location shots.

No meter but I got a shoot planned for tomorrow and hoping to use my AD200. Will have AD600 as backup.

Maybe it has something to do with the programming of the meter's assumption for rise/fall of light intensity vs. the flash manufacturer's assumption, the T.5 vs. the T.1 time.
The L-858 can measure between T0.1 and T0.9, in steps of 0.1
