The 220EX is a nice and very compact flash...

I purchased the Canon 270EX which was a follow-on to the 220EX. That is a nice improvement over the 220EX because of the bounce, manual flash and HSS capabilities. These capabilities, IMO, make it well worth the extra couple of bucks over a 220EX. It even has rear curtain sync capability. The 270EX runs from $40-$80 used on eBay. It has been replaced by the 270EX ii which has slave capability...

Here is an example if the 270EX used in bounce mode on a Canon 40D camera with a Joe Demb Photojournalist FlipIt modifier...

I used the 270EX with this different and less expensive but, very capable reflector/diffuser for this shot with a Canon 6D Mark ii camera.

I carry the 270EX and this diffuser everywhere. It fits great into the top pocket of my photo vest and I use the diffuser as a bag for the 270EX....
