Need Help With This Pano

Hello all I took this pano last weekend at Goblin Valley, the skies were pretty overcast during the day so there's that. I converted it to b&w and think it looks better that way. I did show it to a coworker who recommended some dodging and burning to bring the skies and the hoodoos out more. I agree with her and also wanted to get some advice from the forum as well. Let me know what you think, thanks! These are completely unedited other than the color conversion.

Well, if you shot it in RAW, then it's easy to enhance the contrast or add more values, a full spectrum of mid-tones and lights and darks. This is what makes images look 3D.
If you didn't shoot in RAW but just in JPG, you can still enhance the image by increasing the above values; you may not be able to access the full range though.
After taking a screenshot I was able to enhance both images to look relatively rich and deep.

I like color for the most part. It's hard to gauge with the small image size; it needs to be printed big.

Your sig line didn't say that you welcomed image editing. I inferred it from your words. I chopped off a tiny bit of the white end in the levels histogram and boosted contrast. I didn't do anything to saturation.

Hey no worries I don't mind you editing the image at all. That does look similar to what I was able to come up with myself for a color edit. I did reduce the saturation for the purples and magenta's in mine to get the clouds on the left to have a nicer grey color to them. Here's the color edit for mine, I'll work on the black and white today, if you or anyone wants the RAW file I can put them in a drop box. Thanks again.

Same.

Use Levels and bring blacks up. In any case use different adjustments on rocks and skies. I see there at least four:
- foreground
- rockies
- skies left
- skies right

Even IF you could do everythung in LR, it will be sloppy. You have to use PS here.

Thank you all for the replies here's the link to the file, the only adjustments I've applied are the lens profile corrections. Looks like this one might be a picture to come back to as I'm only just now learning Photoshop. Anyways I look forward to seeing what you all come up with.

I used Silver Efex, I like to punch things up when doing black and white - more contrast, increase the blacks and the whites and a little bit with clarity. Also, very light application of the graduated filter in Lightroom after exporting it from Silver Efex. And I just did this off of the jpeg, that DNG file was a little large.

Thanks for sharing your edit, ya I didn't realize that DNG was gonna that big until I started uploading it. Your edit looks pretty good it reminded me of an edit I did earlier but decided to delete, also thanks for reminding me about Silver Efex I had almost forgotten about the google NIK stuff. So here's one I tried using Silver Efex I used the modern filter 024 and then decreased the exposure a little upped the contrast and clarity added a little sharpening and decreased the highlights, whites and blacks. I think this looks pretty good it increased the moodiness of the clouds a fair bit.

Nice job, I think yours looks better, I pushed the contrast a little too much. The black and white does make the shot more dramatic, I think that's the way to go.

Thank you, I do agree with that for this shot the black and white works better. I think for now until I get better at my Photoshop skills I'll leave this as is, the nice thing about digital these days is that barring some catastrophic hardware failure I'll have the files for a long time to come and will be able to come back to them should I think of something new.

I think the B&W looks great. I also think the Color version could still be the one.
Not sure on the rock color, so didn't adjust.

Great Pano

I chose to do post on the lights and darks separately using alpha channel on another layer. Then use a mixture of curves, blk/wht filter and hue/satuation.
