My general flow has always been - do most work in LR and then complicated layer issues I deal with in PS...

With the current LR/PS CC When I choose "Edit in Photoshop CC2017" it simply opens the ORIGINAL unedited RAW file, not a tiff or PSD with the modifications I have made in LR.

To give more info - it would appear that SOME edits are making the trip... I'm working on a longer exposure starfield picture so I have the Noise Reduction settings pretty high in LR... That Noise reduction isn't showing in Photoshop, while things like WB and Exposure edits are going across.

I tried a quick test to see if perhaps it was just a different zoom level - Edit in PS - made my change - saved..... The new photo in LR had significantly more noise than the one that was "copy 2" in LR.
=-=-=-=-=-=
Also - what happened to getting the 3 options when I used to choose "Edit in PS" ?

"Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments"

"Edit a Copy"

"Edit Original"

I don't get this option when I choose "Edit with Adobe Photoshop CC 2017"

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be going wrong?

This was a recent Tim Grey email. Not sure if it's exactly the same issue, but I hope it helps:

OK - so fair enough... they won't let me PS the original un-edited anymore, I'd have to zero my settings and then PS....
(dumb but that's a UI decision I will have to live with)

But - my EDITED version seems to NOT be sending ALL of the edit information....

My NOISY starfield, which I worked hard to clean up, is noisy all over again.

I can see that by

1) edit in PS
2) Save in PS
3) compare the LR only vs the LR->PS-LR
4) see that the LR->PS->LR is FAR noisier than a file that I did nothing except save in PS :(

Does this make sense?

Just as an aside, you don't actually need to zero your settings. You can just select the "Import" in the History Panel and right click to create a duplicate from that point.

Not sure what is going on with only some edits transferring.

No, it doesn't, sorry. Did you mean to write "LR" instead of "PS" at the end of point 4?

Are you making these comparisons at 100% zoom? No other zoom will suffice when checking noise.

What file format are you saving in?

Hmmm - whoops.

The image that made no trip from LR shows with nice noise correction.

The image that made the round trip BACK to LR via PS (where no adjustments were made) shows the same level of noise that the other image did prior to noise correction. This occurs whether I choose PSD or TIFF as the format for the PS edit in LR preferences.

I am viewing the image in the same level of magnification in LR... Trust me - You don't need to be at 100% to see the difference in noise.... 30secs at ISO4000 ends up with more than a couple of noisy pixels ;)

When I get home, I'll see if I can generate sample images to demonstrate.

Yes, a screenshot from both programs (LR and PS) both zoomed at 100% would be great.
Also, can you do this (external link) for us?

That's a cute little site... Handy for the uninitiated to be able to convey info.

My system isn't quite so cut and dry, though. Hardware info:

Windows 10 v1703 - rebooted AGAIN this morning because I wanted to make sure I didn't have any funky updates pending.

16GB RAM.

C: drive holds OS and programs (SSD) 320 free of 476
S: drive holds scratch space for PS and the %TEMP% directories for myself and for system (SSD) 145 free of 167
F: drive is mirrored HDDs that hold the data. 193 free of 931

Lots of room on all drives. Dealing with LRCC2015 (latest) and PSCC2017 (latest).

I will grab screenshots when I get home.

No changes were made in PS... simply PS opens, I choose Save and then I export BOTH images using the same preset. Look particularly in the area around the big dipper (bottom center) The LR-PS-LR image ends up with more light points than the LR one.

So, those two images look identical, to you?

The first one looks a heck of a lot more blurry, but really, at this small size, I don't know what I'm looking at.

These are 100% crops of the final output (same export) from LR.

The round trip one has brighter "noisy stars" than the non-roundtrip one.

They SHOULD look identical, since nothing other than opening PS, saving as PSD was done to the 2nd one compared to the first.
