The Canon 24-105 f4L is a super lens. It's out of favour at the moment for some reason. It may not fare as well as some in charts/brick walls/MTFs and all that good stuff but mine is used more than most of my other so-described as superior lenses. It's just such a dependable and handy FL for those occasions when you do not want to lug around all your gear.
The V2 has been a big disappointment. Opportunity wasted by Canon.

Agreed. I love it! Has worked well for me!

There is a reason the 24-105 is one of the least expensive L lenses and was a kit lens for a decade. I never understood why it was an L, after a few copies, I was never impressed with more dense sensors with that lens, and other non L lenses were sharper with better results. It was a great range though at a constant f4. I wonder how the Sigma art is doing these days.

Oh well, live without the ring, it didn't make it any more L-like when it was on, nor does it make it any less without it. :)

"I was never impressed with more dense sensors with that lens..."
Please explain. I have no idea what you are talking about.

He is probably saying that the lens cannot resolve modern high-resolution sensors.
